Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th August 2015]

I just don't like this Schneiderlin/Carrick paring. They're both far too defensive minded. Our forward line is feeding off scraps, we're barely getting Depay in the game at all.

I'd rather have Schweinsteiger instead of Carrick, he actually moves forward instead of just passing forward (now and again).

We need to make a change, this just isn't working. Get one of the forward players off for Herrera so we have chance at actually making some possession.

Herrera and Schweinsteiger coming on!

Januzaj off, shame should be Rooney really. He did well with the ball when we got it up there, just a shame our game dropped off so much.

Carrick off again, wonder how much longer he'll be starting.

Utd were great for about 10 minutes around the time of the goal (own goal, deflection was quite big? Januzaj deserves it though) - before and after that pretty dire

Big difference between Chelsea /City and us is right there - they are more merciless right after they score, even if they then sit back again after a few minutes - Utd backed off straight away seemingly trying to hold onto a 1 goal lead (and looked quite shakey at a few points)

The difference is Chelsea/City are more merciless.... lol. UTd have been dire in the first half for all but a few moves. They didn't back off, they were just as rubbish as they were earlier. Rooney was a joke, Depay shot at least twice when he absolutely shouldn't have, Mata put in several bad balls.

The actual difference between current Utd and City performances is City look like they can play football really well and utd don't at all.

I've been saying since frankly Rooney had to go to fat camp during the early part of the season(3 years ago, maybe 4?) that I could only see him struggling. He's a bulky/heavy guy meaning he's putting more stress on his joints than most players, throws himself around a lot. Players with his body type who really don't make a big step up mid-late 20's to change their situation rarely last well. As yet Rooney looks incapable.

I still feel that, this year he seems even further out of shape, slowing down inside the first half and absolutely embarrassing in the second half last game. I think it will only take him longer each season to gain fitness and will lose his legs quicker than most in the future. Ultimately a really bulky body type like his, his attitude, letting himself get so out of shape in summer. He really should have been trying to slim down 2-3 seasons ago and keep his fitness over summer.

Utd seriously should have looked to shove him out a couple of years ago when there was talk of him moving elsewhere. They've have saved a bagload of cash and freed themselves up to bring in any top striker. Now the team just feels stuck, he gets paid way too much, no one will buy him and they can't bench him because of how much he's being paid. He has to play to be valuable commercially to justify his cost .
