1:56am, i didn't read your post properly lol.
I think you have a shot at Europa (which by the way shouldn't be dismissed...) but its at least something to build on. The issue i think you have is you have beaten teams you arguably should have...the big test was Anfield (lets not go there) and the biggy on Saturday.
This season we got shafted by the fixture list. We basically had to play all of the top 4 teams back to back whilst sandwiched between Europa League games.
Hajduk Split, Man City, Hajduk Split, Chelsea, Spurs, Atalanta, Man Utd all back to back.
We didn't get good results, confidence plummeted and then we started to lose games we should have been winning.
Koeman spent badly in summer. We have expensive players like Keane, Klaassen, Vlasic, Sandro, Lookman all bought in by Koeman and they don't kick a ball for us. We lack pace in key areas and we look lightweight in midfield.
Sam Allardyce has gone back to basics. He is right when he says that you can't play out from the back of your defenders aren't good enough to do it or the team your are playing against is too good. He is going from back to front a lot quicker, Calvert Lewin, for a young lad, is very good at bringing the ball under control and stretching play. Under Koeman we tried to play out from the back and regularly lost possession on the halfway line.
Calvert Lewin is becoming a good little player, we know this because he is agitates Liverpool fans haha, he isn't a natural goal scorer and I'd be surprised if he makes double figures but he stretches the play and pins defenders back.
Against Swansea he was very effective, he needs to stay up top because if he drops deepp searching for the ball it allows defenders to push up. Calvert Lewin can dictate the terms of the defensive line and force them back towards their own box.
