I hope Liverpool win I really do but Southampton away is a tough fixture for anyone let alone a team like Liverpool. Wouldn't be surprised if Southampton run out comfortable winners like they did against City

Since there is no WC qualifier thread yet let's talk about the squads in here.

England squad to face Montenegro and San Marino.

GK: Foster, Hart, Forster

Defender: Baines, Cahill, Cole, Dawson, Ferdinand, Johnson, Smalling, Walker,

Midfielders: Carrick, Cleverley, Gerrard, Lampard, Lennon Milner, Osman, Parker, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Young

Forwards: Defoe, Rooney. Sturridge and Welbeck

Can't for the life of me work out why Hodgson has called up Osman, the guy has been dead on his feet the past couple of games. Finally seen the error of his ways and recalled Rio. I think Dawson being in the squad is a good move as well.

Why is Smalling in the squad? Does he even get a game for Man U?

Steven Taylor more than deserves a call up surely, he's been our best player since he came back form injury.

Apart from putting off Stoke goalkeepers I'm not sure Steven Taylor does anything as well as Smalling, particularly in possession where the latter is extremely comfortable.

So it's taken till March for the best English CB in the league by a mile to get a recall, footballing reason my arse!!

No, Steven Taylor isn't in the squad...

Wow, bitter much?

Clearly you haven't seen him play very often? He's easily one of the most confident CB's around. I'd love a stat on the amount of times he controls the ball with his chest from the opposition GK punting the ball up field.

The return to form for Newcastle has partly gone down to the return of Taylor, we have always been able to score goals, but he certainly has tightened the back line up. Nice to know Mike Williamson is nowhere near the bench nowadays...

pretty sure that'll be on literallythemostuselessstatsintheworld.com somewhere, along with the number of times people cut their nails in a calender year etc.

Just what everyone wants from a centre back.

I've always liked Taylor but yeah he aint on the same level as Smalling.

I can understand the reasoning behind selecting Smalling even though he's not playing for us though given he's without a doubt Englands' future so the more call ups he gets is only going going the benefit him in the long term.

EDIT: looking at the other centre backs selected Smalling probably has as good a chance as any of them of actually starting the two games tbh
