Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd November 2017]

Ozil played well today, but this is the problem, how he played today stands out as entirely different to really his usual performance against anyone let alone his usual performances when it's a top team. This is why Ozil isn't a great player, if he played like he did today, with the concentration and energy levels in every game he'd be worth every penny. But these performances are few and very far between and that is hte problem. You need players like him to play as he did today to win these games and when he doesn't show up in most of these games it makes these games very hard to win more consistently.

Llorente, nkoudou and Sissoko needed to go in Jan and we need genuine options as replacements. Even giving Marcus Edwards a chance would be better than continuing with these players.

Ozil MOTM?? Well colour me surprised  :p. About time he showed up in a big game, well done and great performance from him today. More of that please Ozil.

Mustafi has been immense today, glad we didn’t sell him this summer.

Well north London is still red, superb performance from us.

I would love to see Poch manage us, won’t happen but I think he could do absolute wonders with the players we have.

Lovely 3 pts, enjoyable game made much more enjoyable by beating Spurs.

Very even for the first 30 minutes but on balance the home team deserved it

Looked like Alli and Kane just weren't fit enough for the game they really wanted to do well in.

No disrespect to spurs - but I'm glad the 1st goal was given , yes its technically offside, but imo the attacker should be given the benefit in those kinds of instance.

Will make the up coming Xmas fixtures much more interesting esp with Liverpool / Chelsea next weekend

quite amazed Ozil actually turned up for a match - played really well when he bothers to put the effort in, pits its only one match every few weeks this happens

Can you back that up with stats? Eg. the distance he runs on average etc?

Stats don't determine how well someone plays nor how much effort they put in. Imagine a situation where everyone is back for a corner, Ozil and Sanchez are on the edge of our box, a counter attack happens, Sanchez runs up the field in 10 seconds and draws a corner, Ozil jogs up the pitch, who has run more? Because Ozil will jog slowly over to the corner flag while Sanchez probably stays around where he was in the box and Ozil actually moves further to go and take the corner. Running distance is meaningless. You can also sprint 10 yards to close a player down then put a tackle in or you can job 10 yards over to someone and stand near them, put no actual pressure on and let them run around you easily. There is no statistical measure that shows someone is working harder or trying harder than usual, only interpretation of a performance. For anyone who watches most Arsenal games that performance stood out significantly as being far better than usual in such a bigger game and a better performance than most of his in general in any game.

The very reason Ozil isn't a truly great player is he's never at any stage of his career performed like that consistently, he's barely had 3 games in a row in his entire career at that level and in the last couple of years at Arsenal he's probably performed at that level genuinely only 3-4 times.
