I could understand playing this formation against a defensive team that sat back but against a team like Villa who will counter at pace regardless of the score it's asking to get punished.

Why are Liverpool so bad all of a sudden? Oh wait, Gerrard is back. Surely any hardcore Liverpool fan can see he is holding them back. Suarez can score from set pieces so is Gerrard really needed on the pitch.
