Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 2nd September 2012]

Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal HT

This game just highlights how much we needed a striker over the summer. We struggled all season with goals last year so the answer was to sign a luxury player in midfield for £15 million and dump all our attacking options.

As far as I'm concerned the summer transfer window was a disaster and everyone involved from the owners to Rodgers have let the club down.

Yet again a 17 year old boy looks to be our biggest threat and we have nothing to bring on from the bench.

Same old crap, do well make chances/half chances don't make keeper do any kind of save and opposing team burys there's. Gerrard being very below par him and suarez giving it away but least Suarez try's to win it back. Sahin can't get into game properly but has been in good positions just unnoticed. Struggle to see us getting anything now. Sterling had best chance and that hit the post :(

Yea i said next season but it seems that some get iffy about steve G.

Actually you said

From a gerrard turn over. Hope its his last season. Thanks for the service but its time to go.

Which would imply you want him to go asap if it is time to go and secondly time to go implies retire, not be on the bench.

You have to be brain dead or united fan in disguise if you want that.

Allen's a luxury player? Hasn't he been a key lynchpin, so far?
We had more than enough midfielders and created more than enough chances last season. We needed a goalscorer first and foremost and we failed epically. No good having a player like Allen if there's no one to get on the end of his passes.

Can see why they do but as you said its rose tinted glasse, I don't think Reina jn his last 2 seasons has been great for us either

Finally, someone who agrees with me. Other LFC fans I know seem to skirt around Reina's recent form. Yes he is an excellent keeper but there have been a couple of errors creeping into his game, particularly last season. For all intent it looks like this season will be no different. Does anyone know what happened to Doni? I don't think Brad Jones has the ability to fill Reina's boots but he still seems like a decent keeper.

Joe Allen looks like he might actually be worth the money they paid this time, very tidy player, long or short he doesn't often seem to miss a pass.

Gerrard on the other hand looks a fraction of the player he used to be. Sloppy passing, running on obvious old legs, his ability to drag the team out of the **** via a goal or a performance will be a rare thing now I think.

Don't imply just read what i wrote. "Hope its his last season"

Brian dead is to think he will back to what made him great.

Been careless in possession at times and the yellows we're carrying might be a worry 2nd half but at least we've got that important first post-RVP goal. The change of feet from Cazorla to be able to lay the pass into Podolski's path was quite nice - wouldn't mind seeing him have a crack outside the box but the only time we've really looked threatening is when we have players running into space as the tekkers stuff then cutting through-ball still isn't there.

Where did I say he would be back to his greatest? He is still a very effective player.

Hope its his last season, followed by 'it is time to go'. So either you can see into the future and know he isn't going to be good enough for the squad next year or you think it now. Regardless if he isn't in starting 11 he is a great squad player despite you suggesting he should retire.

Allen was key in establishing the philosophy that Rodgers wants to play.

But i totally agree that not signing a striker is a real concern.

Gerrard has been laughably bad, if it wasn't for Giroud playing as well he'd of been the worst player out there.

Diaby has bossed the midfield, been really impressive, Corzola looks very inventive.

Today he has been good at bad passes and loosing the ball. Did you miss the goal?
That our midfield hasn't got anyone better to play yes i agree. But he is not the future.

That being the key word.

Suarez has been equally as bad, Borini not much better.

Blunt knife up front, only hope is Sterling at the moment or random Suarez magic.

Losing to a very average side here, Diaby the only one who looks really good, other than that we've practically scored the goal for the other team again.
