Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 25th February 2015]

What a mindnumbingly boring second half, struggled to stay awake.. apart from that small spell before half time Liverpool never looked in any trouble.

Lots of similarities to last seasons match at St Mary's. We didn't play well, Southampton had lots of the play without creating many clear chances but thankfully our little bit extra quality in attack saw us through.

Hopefully Sakho isn't too bad because 3 at the back without him doesn't work. As Carra mentioned pre-game, Lovren is somebody you want in the centre of the 3 not to the side where he'll get pulled wide and isolated. Having Lovren in there didn't help Can either - being switched to the left seemed to cause him a few positional problems.

As for the ref and decisions, I only thought he got one wrong. The Can incident was nothing with their lad just hoping Can would do what Song done earlier in the day. The Allen challenge was a pen though and I can only think the Lovren challenge has confused the ref. Initially I thought Sterling should have had a pen but when you watch it again the ball is probably too far away to claim Sterling could have still got to the ball. And finally the Mignolet handball could never be argued as intentional, it's deflected off his chest.
So Liverpool's defence and keeper are decent after all :p

I think we won despite the defence today.

I thought professional was an excellent way to describe it. We played badly, dug in, and ground a win out. Yes, we weren't great, but Skrtel in particular was excellent, and the team as a whole dug in. We didn't win the league last year as we couldn't do that on off days.

We won't win it this year obviously, but having a few months of adversity has really toughened the team up, and got Brendan playing slightly less gung ho.

And Rodgers recognition of the fact that if we kept attacking today and changing it early was excellent. It wasn't pretty, but we won. That's important.

I wasn't talking about the defence today but more you've set a record for away clean sheets in a row. Can't be bad.

Yea, defensively on the whole we've been excellent since switching to the 3-4-3. Mignolet's form since coming back into the side has been remarkable too.

Two months ago you wouldn't find a Liverpool fan not thinking we need a new keeper. He's been as good as anybody in the league since coming back into the side though. He's back to his shot stopping best but has also been commanding his area like never before and like I didn't think he was capable of. Even his kicking hasn't been bad.

That's a ridiculous stat. Since moving to Liverpool Rodgers has only lost four games after January 1.

It's an incredible record but not surprising. Our form in his first season was very good once we signed Coutinho and Sturridge and of course last season our 2nd half to the season was nothing short of incredible.

edit: Now JM on Goals on Sunday. I hope it's as good as everybody said.

Disappointed JM claimed Chelsea had 1 decision go in their favour all season. He should have gone the whole way and said none.
