Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th March - 24th March 2015]

Thanks to Gerrard as well, he'll be fondly remembered. :p

:D:D:D

We were far from perfect but never looked in much danger.

Completely disagree with this - even with 10 men, they really stepped up into the game - Utd were very close to throwing it away (especially with Di Maria and that awful pass behind rooney which would have got a 3rd, even shooting himself would have been better)

The whole team relaxed far too much in the 2nd half

I mentioned last week that we could have gone with Gerrard over Lallana to give us some flexibility for exactly what happened today. Utd done exactly what Swansea done to us last week and our midfield couldn't get involved in the game. We were too deep to press Utd and as a result they were able to get the ball into Fellaini and keep us pinned back.

The right change came at HT but complete stupidity from Gerrard cost us a chance of getting back into the game. That said, things should have been evened up soon after when Jones went through Henderson. You knew it was Jones' day when he got away with a clear as day yellow on Lallana in the first half though.

A win today would have made the Arsenal game a bit of a bonus game but now we've got to get a result there to keep us in touch with Utd going into their games vs Chelsea and City.

Fantastic result in a tough fixture. We were far from perfect but never looked in much danger.

Great to see Mata playing as we know he can. Shame Rooney fluffed his penalty but it was a decent save.

Rooney's worst game in a while, worst United player on the pitch. Looks like we've found a decent starting 11.

He plays exactly the same in almost every game this year. Was it the last game or two ago he got two goals, one a penalty someone else won, he had done absolutely nothing in the game till then, then a tap in near the end maybe, again nothing in between, no help in the build up.

He's consistently crap but if he gets a goal the other 89 mins of the game get forgotten most of the time. Rooney not being that bad in central midfield is why Utd have improved lately. If they gave Falcao a run without Rooney playing in midfield destroying the offence he might turn out good... but Utd likely won't.

Nothing from us was good today, gerrard stupid stupid thing to do got deserved bet skrtel will get a ban too, why in the first half we didn't press etc I've no idea, we cannot rely on counter attacking all the time especially with a team of utd calibre. Roll on arsenal can't do as bad as today I'd of thought

Pretty sure de Gea's mistake at the front post was Liverpool's only shot on goal?

I maybe wrong?

They still had some very good chances (like Llalana in the 1st half, Stirling) several other chances that Utd should have dealt with earlier

Utd were very lucky indeed in one sense not to concede a 2nd (as much as Liverpool were lucky to not concede a 3rd a couple of different times)

Ridiculous from Gerrard, he was obviously pumped up after just coming on, but to stamp like that ... no excuse. To be fair, he has just done an interview and held his hand up, no BS, just apologised and admitted he cocked up.

Awesome second goal from Mata, United took their foot of the gas in the last 20 minutes or so, but would've been a bit of a robbery had United not taken all 3 points.

Looked like Skrtel left his foot in at the end as well? Looked a bit naughty to me.

Well played to gerrard admitting what he did and apologized, most players who stamp deny it. At least Herrera was okay as it could have done damage. Still gerrard deserves his ban but I suspect fa will get involved and make it more than 3 matches

He couldn't really say anything else (although his actions to the 4th official during the game seems to want to get Herrera a red also)

Could certainly be seen that way, even if he didn't mean it

Not sure of Sterlings best position today, Left Back or Right Back. Got some future in the game that lad

Don't know how Di Maria deserves any credit for the penalty - that's a bit of a stretch imo

He also completely ******** up an assist to kill off the game on the break which was far easier to do

He doesn't deserve a starting place yet vs City or Chelsea , he just doesn't do enough (and rarely tracks back with any urgency)

The only issue is Young's fitness in two weeks time vs AV - if he isn't fit, its DiMaria by default
