Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd October 2016]

hows that compare to lvg and moyes?

15/16 LVG with 6 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses. Losses to Arsenal and Swansea.
14/15 LVG with 3 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses. Losses to, Leicester(the crazy 5-3), Swansea and City.
13/14 Moyes with 4 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses. Losses to Pool, City and West brom.

It's worth remembering though that Moyes took over an established first team, used the same team that finished the previous season and had no injuries. LVG's first year what 3 of the defenders left and they had a very bad injury crisis for the first 2 months of the season. He left a fairly established and solid defence and something to build from, which has only been added to with a solid CB, a world class striker, the most expensive player in midfield.

LVG started much better in similar circumstances I would say that Mourinho has taken over this year.

No DM that squad has been knackered for a while, anyone can see that, they've lacked a balance for years. It was always going to take a few years to get the team back up to where it was. Fergie was there for such a long time and having that taken away was a huge change for everyone at the club. The fans just need to be patient.

What relevance has that got to anything I said at all?

I was replying to this bit. Your making out that the squad that was left for these managers is championship winning, but it's far from that. They've got some great players, no doubt, but it's a wholly imbalanced squad with too many free riders. It's not a middle of the road team, fine, but it's not a competing on every front squad either.

One, the team Moyes took over was literally a championship winning side. He made zero changes and they were playing the same lineup game after game. They weren't knackered, it was the start of the season, we're talking about the first 9 games being compared. Moyes had the same team that finished the previous year and was able to name a nearly identical line up every single game for the first 12 or so games, consistency brings performances.

In LVG's first year, Evra, Vidic and Rio all left/retired, that is 3/4's of the defence moving on. On top of that Smalling, Jones, Carrick and several others were used at CB as they kept getting injured.

We're not talking about winning titles, I was very clear in comparing the situation around the first 9 games. A settled squad that won the title the previous year and an injured team in which 75% of the starting defence left is not comparable. None of your points are relevant to that comparison.

Yep then will be out for AFCON in January too. Should be fine with Blind and smalling but if one of them get injured we'll need to use Rojo or Tanzuebe.

or if you believe the reports today.....Pogba:D

I think Blind is being found out as a defender by the opposition.

There is always a possibility - given that two months could be extended - that Bailly is ruled out of the ACoN due to his knee. Of course I want him to recover as quickly as possible, but is it worth rushing him back just so he can get on a plane and play in a tournement which now happens every two years?

Surely Fosu-Mensah would be an option as well?

Only as a last resort in my opinion. He's more a DM than CB and is still making loads of mistakes, far too many to be a starting CB in the premier league where those mistakes will be punished with goals. Remember he's still only 18.
