Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 24th August 2015]

That'll do. Should have won the game in the first half but given our record away to Arsenal of late I'll take a point.

Good attacking performance first half and good defensive performance second. For all Arsenal's play in the 2nd half they only really created 1 clear chance (+ the disallowed goal in the first), not many teams will limit them to that.

edit: I think Carra made the point last week after the Bournemouth game, we're not just keeping clean sheets but we're not even conceding chances in these opening games. Hopefully the defence keep up their good start and our attack clicks soon.

Game was transformed when Ox came on and Ramsey went into the middle.

Did anything happen when he came on? I honestly can't think of anything other than one shot from distance by him and Liverpool having the chance on the break. Arsenal's better play came before he came on.

Another Boring 0-0....

It was 0-0, but it was anything but boring.

Expected much better from us tonight. We're not in our stride at all yet. I can see a tough game on Saturday as well against the Geordies. That defence really hurt us though. If we had our usual partnership, I think we would have won tonight.

Mignolet looked flappy as hell in that last 15 minutes. Was he ok the rest of the game?

He almost caused Skrtel to score but that was about it, your description of Ibe(I think it was you anyway) could just as easily fit for Ox, all energy and running but no brain in there. Even his shot was begging, absolutely begging to be hit with his left foot and he waited, took an awkward shot well wide with his right foot instead. His shooting is dire, passing frequently poor. For anything good he does he usually does 5 bad things. Constantly gets caught out in dangerous places as he did against West Ham. 2-3 good games a year vs 20+ bad ones if he's lucky enough to not be injured that long.

he needs to make a big step up and has time but he really hasn't improved since he joined.

He flapped at 2 crosses but that's about it. Didn't have a great deal to do other than the one big save and a couple of easy shots from distance.

Loving Rodgers press-conferences this season. Even after the PL said Benteke's goal last week shouldn't have stood he said it was an excellent call by the lino to allow it and tonight he's just said "I have seen a replay, his shirt looks offside. Great decision by the linesman" :D

Some good signs from the new players. Gomez looks very good pity he likes to grab players that go past him 3 yellows in 3 games. Liverpool doesn't like or do 2nd half's. Man crush levels for cou reaching crazy levels:D:o

I was at the game last night, shame we lost our cb partnership before kickoff

CHambers was awful like a bambi in headlights, Gabriel got better as the game went on his pace is good.

Why ramsey started on the right is beyond belief oxlade should be starting he was excellent against Chelsea then spends next few games on the bench.

We had no width until ox came on. should have been ox on the right and ramsey central.

Considering all the talk is about a new striker you'd of thought giroud would be putting a shift in, hes been awful the first few games.

should have started Walcott and bring giroud on with 20 left not the other way around.

Was a great game if frustrating in the first half.

Mignolet and his time wasting is a joke why wait until the final 5 minutes to finally book him

Walcott is utterly utterly utterly useless as a central striker regardless of what he thinks his role is. He's lazy, weak, stupid, can't hold up the ball, has no strength, doesn't make good short runs into space. He runs in behind... that is his game and career summed up.

Against Chelsea Walcott was truly abysmal playing centrally and he looks that way in every game he starts centrally. He physically can't play that role at all.

As for Ox he's played exactly the same way since he joined, all pace and energy. Except for the one cross that almost got deflected in everything was done with huge enthusiasm and no quality. Every performance is effectively the same, he'll get into some dangerous positions, take some wild shots but is ultimately ineffective. He has 3-4 games a year where his overall input is positive for the team, many more it's negative.

He started against West Ham, was woeful offensively and his sloppy conceding of possession led directly to the second goal where after giving it away for no reason at all he gave up on it instantly, made zero effort to get back. That sums up last season for him even in the games he scored he gave away the ball with a stupid attempt to run past a player or a woeful touch in a dangerous possession that led to a goal against us.

If he learned to control himself just a bit, not run headfirst into trouble over and over again and significantly improve his shooting then he has a physicality, pace, strength and stamina, that very few have. The biggest issue I have with him is he really hasn't improved his game, changed his game in the slightest since the day he joined. He's the same 3-4 good games a season 10 average games and 10 bad games a season player he's always been.

I didn't understand the decision to sub off Giroud last night at all - Ozil, Sanchez and Santi all use him to play 1-2s off and you get Walcott on instead who can't hold up the ball, couldn't run into space because Liverpool were defending so deep. It looked a woeful tactical decision unless Giroud's legs were just gone?
