Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24 - 26th August 2013]

When was the last striker got more than 38 goals in the league ? :p

I'll give you a hint, never.
.

Not a very good hint if its wrong :p

Jimmy greaves 1961, 41 goals. Another Manu fan that thinks football started with the epl and 'league' refers to that? :p;)

There are others too...

Premier League :p

and 38 games, they played 42 games back in 1961. So...that is still less than 1 per game :D

Yes! Suarez is a few levels above Sturridge and key to our season.

Key in the way that technically the best player always improves a team no matter what he does, or technically in so much as Suarez didn't make an awful lot of difference to Liverpools season, being involved for instance in every minute of all their losses?

I've said before so many times, you have players who are technically great but they don't suit any position and teams are usually stronger without them. VDV is a great player, but he doesn't score enough for an out and out striker, he doesn't assist enough for a creative midfield and he doesn't defend or have the discipline for central mid.... he's great to watch but ultimately ineffective. Sneijder is the same, both players have the odd epic game but throughout their career they've had more years being average and not involved than brilliant and helping their teams.

There is a reason top clubs keep pushing these players out the door. Suarez is the same, he's too selfish to be a winger/wide striker/withdrawn striker/ACM. he's not a good enough finisher to be a striker, even with 23 goals his strike rate was meh(even without averaging it across the previous 18 months), he missed key chances in games they lost repeatedly. 4-10 shots against crap teams in which you don't score happens to all strikers no matter what fans think, but when it's 5+ times a season and you lose all those games and there was basically no reason except Suarez's woeful finishing for losing those games.....

He's not an out and out striker, he's not a wide striker(though that is closest to suiting him), he's not a central midfielder and discipline.... lol, he doesn't have the discipline to be on the pitch frankly :p

You can have a seemingly great player, and win nothing and never improve, or you can have seemingly less good players who have specific roles and work better as a team. Personally I don't want Suarez at Arsenal because he's both not good enough in any particular role, has a discipline problem, its easier to build a proper team without a player like Suarez/VDV/Sneijder to put into the team.

Liverpool look more effective every time Suarez doesn't play, there is a reason for that, individual quality of the player is 100% irrelevant when it comes to if he should play. How a player fits in with and works with a team should be the only consideration, Suarez doesn't... at all.
