Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 26th August 2012]

City were very poor, and Liverpool were just ridiculously sloppy on those two occasions in defence.

Why is Mancini fiddling with Man City's system, he should just stick to what they used previously... not that I'll complain.

I don't rate Mancini much personally, he's obviously a good manager to some extent but he strikes me as a fairly odd person and seems to be a bit clueless at times.

I also think his 'heart' isn't in it at Man City and he'd jump ship at the first opportunity if they started to struggle. Wasn't he after the Russian national team job, or they were after him, that's why City gave him a new contract? Not ideal.

Robbo, I am intrigued to how you think he is "odd" and "clueless at times". I am not turning this into an argument everyone is entitled to their opinion I am just interested.

The Russia job was just paper/Twitter rubbish. He got a new contract because of what he has done for the club. We wanted a bit of stability in their manager's chair for once!

I find him a bit odd because of the way he behaves and the things he says, he looks like a bit of a Mourinho wannabe with his daft attempts at mind games (whether they've ever worked or not for any manager is a matter of opinion, I don't think they ever have much of an effect really).

As for him being clueless at times, well, he had a winning formula and instead of just getting a couple of players and making it even more formidable, he's decided to mess about with the formation and the players really don't look themselves. There's also the fact he continues to use Mario Balotelli, a player who is just not a sane choice by any stretch of the imagination - let's be honest. He could have sold him and replaced him, but he hasn't.

I just think he's simply not a great manager, more an average/decent manager with a very good squad.

Mancini wants more signings and is seemingly complaining about this in public.

His team selection and tactics have been a bit, baffling in the two games they've played so far this season (League) and in the Community Shield.

I also don't think they *really* played 3-5-2, I thought given the players that were picked it was more 5-3-2 :/

At the end of last season, he had a fairly ideal squad. He should have improved it with a couple of players and then they would have been even stronger than last year.

A quality new CM, and then a wide player, or something like that.

Instead, he's had a fit about transfers, hung Marwood out to dry to the press, constantly moaned about everything, and then signed Rodwell - a player he seemingly didn't really want.

It's very odd behaviour.

I am sure in the past after a game SAF, Mourinho, Guardiola has gone mad at a certain player but because it didn't happen in public we don't know about it.

Probably not to the extent Mancini did. He meant it, he just backtracked as he was in the wrong or realised he couldn't afford to lose Tevez.
