Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26 - 27th October 2013]

Well a poor win but a win none the less. We're making a meal of every game at the moment but we just had enough to come back. Still huge questions over Moyes. These should be the easier games.

4-1 FT

Dominated most of the game, Suarez and Sturridge both scored world class goals and the midfield look far more assured on and off the ball.

Only concerns were Johnson going off (hopefully he's not injured again) and Kelly, who looked far from ready for first team action, coming on and Cissokho who looks equally as confused as Enrique at times.

I'm starting to think we should just keep Rooney in midfield until Christmas. At the moment we have no-one to play alongside Carrick. Fellaini has been poor, Cleverley has been dire, Giggs just can't do that position in big games and he doesn't seem to want to use Anderson at all. It would be a shame because Rooney has been great so far but he really is the best option we have until we sign people.

I agree with the sentiment, and then think of how hard Arsenal made of CP earlier today (admittedly away from home)

No easy games in the EPL - especially with a team low on confidence

I still think Jones and Evans are not a good centre half pairing

But three points are still three points and cant be sniffed at.

Most of the Utd players were too lethargic and just not up for it in for the majority of the game not helped by Jones giving away the foul in a dangerous area for Stoke's 2nd

At least Kagawa is starting to get games, so Im happy for small mercies (and all three of Utd's main strikers scored today)

It would **** Rooney off no end - and maybe not surprisingly, but why not have Chicharito with RvP just behind with Rooney in an AM position (until woodward can get his finger out of his *** and actually sign some decent players)

The connection from midfield to attack is still pee poor as it has been for a while. When an attack breaks down and the ball bounces free, there is no clean up from the midfield. The opposition end up with it and can run at our midfield. If you look at other side that are on top and attacking they pile on the pressure by not allowing the opposition a respite. One attack fails and another is already starting.

I actually thought defence to midfield was worse today, we really struggled to get the ball out. Our usual 'hoof long' just doesn't work against a team like Stoke. All they had to do was mark Carrick and it left Evra as our only outlet. We missed Rafael but things improved when Rooney came into midfield and we had two options to get the ball out in the centre.

Evans and Jones just dont work, I still think Smalling and Evans is a MUCH better fit currently. The former pairing just leaves the whole team on edge

Other thing to note - for the last ten years Everton have for the most part started seasons very badly, and gradually improved......

For this to work you need a good midfield pairing....... ):

Lethargy's been mentioned a few times now. Is Moyes working them too hard in training and taking something away from matchday?

No, I'd say a lot of players look fitter than they ever have, especially Rooney.

It's the attitude/spirit/desire that seems to be lethargic and missing from most.

Certainly agree with that - Im not sure whether others look a lot fitter or not (maybe Rooney just got his "spirit" back after well documented issues with SAF)

Definitely attitude /spirit issue too though

I'm sure I remember some Dutch coach criticising Moyes training methods when van Persie got injured in pre-season - I believe he called them 'pre-historic', or something along those lines.
