Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th April - 2nd May 2012]

That whole headless chicken thing is exactly what we missed tonight, we couldn't handle the legs of Toure, Barry, Tevez etc etc. You may underrate defending from the front but it would have helped immensely tonight having some stopping City playing out from the back as easily as they did.

Berbatov wouldn't of made a jot of difference tonight nor in a large majority of games we've lost/dropping points in this season. Baz is right the less he plays the better he apparently is, ironic really because when he was playing he was **** in many people eyes

Clearly not, as we had Park for that (assisting Rooney) and he was utterly useless.

Sometimes you just need attacking players who actually attack and think about unlocking defences instead of relying on crosses and so forth. Also, he can hold up the ball extremely well too.

I've always thought he's one of our better players whether he plays or not. Sure, a lot of people moan about him but that is purely down to them thinking he's lazy when he isn't really.

I'm not saying Fergie didn't get it wrong tonight and playing Park after months of not even a sub appearance was one example of this, not playing Welbeck from the start was another. Not playing Berbatov was not though.

I was replying to DM talking about the general treatment of Berbatov though.

I could understand why he may not play tonight but I would have rather had him on trying to create something than have to watch that 'defensive' (I use that word lightly) shambles.

I couldn't disagree more. All Jones's problems are down to positioning imo and he's crying out for a settled position (even if that means not playing every week).

So many talented youngsters have wasted far too many years searching for their best position.

I think he needs to be our Vidic replacement long term if possible, the future John Terry of sorts, just not a ****. :p

I can't see him as a midfielder or a right back personally, and they need to sort out his 'creative' streak. Anyone can go on a storming run down the pitch and then lose the ball, but it's just pointless really.

Was at the game last night and what a great atmosphere. No guesses for who I support. I thought some of the lads really showed their class and pedigree in what was a nervous and awkward match at times. Personal opinion Fergie got it wrong by not playing pacey in form wingers, that would have forced the City full backs in to position rather than the freedom they got.

People can complain about buying success, which is true to an extent, but I don't think you would be complaining if it was your club that got a massive investment and was treating you to sensational football at a reasonable price. Season Card was £405 this year.

Having been a season ticket(card) holder for the past 20 years I've done my time. Going to places like the McAlpine Stadium as it was and watching some truly poor players like Lee Bradbury and Michael Fontzeck.

Still two important and tough matches to go before I get too excited (it is City after all expect the unexpected), but happy to have done the double over United in the league.

A very proud City supporter.

p.s. was good to see there was little to no trouble at the game (apart from Mancini and Fergie! :) ) and no unnecessary and inexcusable chants about footballing tragedies.

You should post a bit more, there are no other City fans here who actually post and a bit of balance is nice! :p

i think as a club who aspires to be the best that looking for value isn't what we should be doing. we should be looking for quality, someone who can make a difference not simply balance the books or open up opportunities in an asian market...

That's one of the major reasons we have Park. :(

The bottom line, and what I think Nick is getting at, is that our current team needs to be improved by some of the excellent talent available worldwide. Preferably before it's too late.

He's right in that where we could have Cavani/Falcao and other such players, we're relying on Welbeck to learn his trade and catch up to them. At what cost will that come? He can't be doing that while Man City just get stronger and stomp their way through the league.

However, I think we are all losing sight of the fact that, despite all this, we're level on points with them and we're missing Vidic. Though a lot of that has come down to luck in my opinion at times and at Wigan and against Everton it ran out.

It's not as if City are going to get worse either, Mancini is learning and clearly wants to improve their squad some more. We need to as well.

The problem is it's living in cloud cuckoo to think like that, he says we should have signed Aguero, Aguero cost City £38m, name me a club that isn't City, Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid who are able to spent that kind of money on one player? People need to realise that in some case you just cant compete (we should be thankful that we're in the position we are able to spend as much as we do in the first place tbh).
For the record Falcao cost €40m which I believe is just over £30m so again we're talking about a sizeable amount of money for just one player and for all this talk of these big money strikers that we should have signed how many goals more have City scored than us in the PL? Two. If the title is lost on GD then it's the goals we've let in that have hurt us more and like you say we've been without our best defender for more or less the entire season.

Spending upwards on 30m this summer or another striker would be the wrong thing to do and that's why I'm not particularly interested in all this talk of Eden Hazard, we failed to match City in midfield last night and that's where we need to address things not on another wingers or any more strikers.

That was just an example though, you can apply the same logic to the midfield. I hope that's what happens anyway!

FT.

I haven't seen many better goals than that second Cisse one, absolutely incredible.

The first was pretty damn good as well.
