Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th - 30th December 2018]

Great performance and huge result. There could have been some panic and anxiety in the ground when Arsenal took the lead but this side just keep stepping up whenever questions are asked of them. Maybe had Arsenal held onto the lead for another 15-20 mins then things may have been different but as soon as we equalised there was only going to be one outcome. The only real negative from our side is that we didn't really put Arsenal to the sword in the 2nd half - particularly in the first 15 mins or so, we could have scored another couple of goals.

After 14 months without a league pen at Anfield we've now had 3 in 2 games - hopefully all the ones we weren't given before have been stored up. Another couple and we'll just about have got all the pens we deserved vs Brighton on the last day of last season!

Really pleased for Bobby to get his goals but Wijnaldum was outstanding again today. Now on to City.

He'll never be remembered as a Liverpool player by our fans.

Fantastic, isn't it? :D
No panic at all at going 1-0 down. No way You were ever going to fail to score today.

You underestimate our crowd. When we had to beat Boro on the final day of the season before last, you could feel the anxiety in the crowd when we hadn't scored in the first 10 minutes. After all that had gone on in the last few days with City and Spurs dropping points, today became a massive opportunity for Liverpool and the importance could have transferred into nerves both in the crowd and on the pitch when we went behind. Hitting back within a couple of minutes obviously helped though.

lol if we continue to defend like this yes

We need a whole new defence, not one of them is good enough. It's just mistake after mistake. You can normally tell the opposition are gonna score about 20 seconds before they do.
And each year the money needed to make us competitive goes up, and the chances of the owner doing anything is basically zero.

Crowd drowned out Arsenal cheering instantly after they scored also :)

Tbf I remember @omnomnom calling this at start of season arsenal signed experined defenders but who were also likely past it, coming to a very fast league. Can you say your surprised really?

Lol soriktas still kicking off, muppet

This is the first time I've been given credit...even my wife and children hate me so thank you.

He was a self obsessed **** that put himself before the club. Oh, and he played for United and produced a pamphlet about qualities he thought he had. Crap commentator and pundit as well.
I’ll never forget that video when he took great delight in how good he was in embarrassing a young 13 year old hopeful goalie.

Big Neville Southall soon put him in his place.

How come? He is arguably the reason you won so much in 2001.
He was undoubtedly a great player but even before he ran his contract down to force a move to Madrid and then signed for Utd, he was never thought of like Fowler was or other local players. I think Pigeon might be going slightly ott but there was definitely an element of what he says but also the fact that he broke through into the England side so early didn't help him. He quickly became England's Michael Owen rather than Liverpool's.

Nah, he would play for Liverpool when he was injured to try and prove he was fit for an England call up, he would get the call up and then get injured worse while on International duty.

Can't remember which club it was but he refused to play for one of his later clubs because he didn't want to risk injury before the transfer window started. That was Owen in a nutshell.

Fowler's god, Owen's just a player that wore the Liverpool shirt and nothing more. Now he's just an annoyance.

Don't think you'll find a single Spurs fan that thinks we are genuine title contenders, we have too many injuries and need a replacement for either Dembele or Wanyama. As soon as Dele came off and Moutinho came on for Wolves we were completely overran. Sissoko and Winks looked flat on their heels after 60 mins.

Laugh at Spurs all you want but we've signed no one, played every game away and have a huge injury list but still manage to be second. Go figure. This time last year we were 5th with 37 points and we're 8 points better off in 2nd this year, it's progress.

Unless Man City find some form Liverpool have this. They had a goalkeeper and defence problem, threw nearly £150m at it and the league looks to be theirs. That's how football works now.
