Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th December 2017 - 4th January 2018]

You have to win some games like that occasionally but christ we looked toothless up front, Solanke robbing Mane of our best chance too. Really wanted him to be good

Thank **** for that again! I know it's 2 games in 3 days and you've got to rest players but we set up and played Burnley's game today and it showed. It was only ever going to be a scrappy win and thank god we got it. Stunning strike from Mane and that was a really good header from Lovren at the end too (yes I know Klavan got the final touch) but **** me, Gomez really needs to learn to defend the back post a bit more. That's the third time this season he's fallen asleep at the back post and cost us goals.

It won't get much of a mention because it's Burnley and we have to praise them for how well they're doing but they're a ****ing horrible football team and as big a set of cheats as you'll ever see. They don't want to play football, all they want to do is win free-kicks whether that's on the edge of our area or on their goal line. Ashley Barnes in particular is as bad as Zaha when it comes to cheating - he spent the entire game barging into Lovren and throwing himself to the ground and the ref bought it all game too.

Martial playing striker, should be interesting. His actual position.

Honestly people were saying it last year and, really based on what is central striker his position? Most of the bits of play I saw with him at Monaco were him dribbling down the wing and coming into the box when the ball was going down the other wing.

95% of what we've seen him do for Utd is dribbling up the wing and into the box. For 9/10 players with his strengths they play best out wide where you actually get to dribble a lot and not play more of a target man central role. Never have I watched Martial play and thought hey, he really looks like a central striker being wasted out wide, I think he looks like a wide attacker being played out wide in his best position.

He hasn't played centrally often enough to be certain of that. I think he has the qualities to play as a striker, a bit like Henry, early days he was wide, then became a striker. Not saying he'll be that good though, he's very inconsistent.
