Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th October - 3rd November 2015]

Yep which hasn't really helped at all.

With the constant cuts, bad mistakes at appointing managers, not being around for games unless we get to Wembley, It all adds up.

Ok not all the blame can be put on Lerner, But the lump of it can be.

We need complete change from the bottom to the top, Not just changing managers every year. Half these players in the team wouldn't even make it onto any of our competitors benches if I'm honest.

he is trying to sell you isnt he?
quick question we know this villa team is bad, but should it be near the bottom on paper?

i'd say so. there was a time not too long ago when villa used to be a bit of a bogey team for spurs. i think it was 4 or 5 yrs ago i remember a 4-4 between. only way i could have seen villa scoring 4 tonight would've been if we took our back 4 off for the second half. big problems with no money being re-invested. might stick £100 on them to drop

this is a great chance for spurs to get top 4 and it might not get this good again for a while

chelsea should start getting things together and leicester will drop off. the goal we conceded was dissapointing because it was a deflection and we'd looked pretty solid at the back and have done for large periods now.

only thing i'd change would be put eriksen behind kane and put son on the wing and bench dembele. alli and dier looking good, much better partnership than mason and bentaleb off last season.

Liverpool - Terrible start to the season, manager replaced after 8 league games.

Won 4
Drawn 5
Lost 2

Spurs - Undefeated in the league since opening day....

Won 5
Drawn 5
Lost 1 (Opening Day)

there's something that's clicked at spurs still a long road of progress to go but there's a definite turn

back 4 look more organised, dier and alli forming a good cm and lamela has finally realised he isn't going to be the centre of attention or try and showboat, he's just got to get a shift in and he's now done this over the past few games.

if eriksen and kane continue to link up with chadli and son chipping in with goals too, there's no reason we can't push for top 4.

this comes down to whether chelsea find form before christmas and what goes on at united. we're playing better as a team than united are and much better than liverpool are.

liverpool GD 0
spurs GD 10

long way to go but i like the way things are going.

It's the directions the team are going and the level of change the manager has been able to effect.

If you give a manager a club and he's only allowed to make small changes to the playing personnel then you expect some improvement but not completely drastic change. Conversely if you give a manager 3 years, 300million and gets to change whoever he wants you expect significant improvement. Rodgers spent a load, had full control for years and was producing worse and worse football, they also got VERY lucky with a couple of the wins and should have lost a couple more.

Poch has more recently taken over, Spurs may have spent 100mil one season but Poch didn't, he's been at the start of a rebuilding phase, having to deal with a poor existing squad and replacing it. Rodgers has had that chance and the team was going backwards when he got fired. Poch is just starting to get his chance to have a longer term effect on the team and they are very obviously improving and moving forwards.

If after 3 years and 300mil spent with the squad his choice and the team going backwards, sure, fire Poch.

Fans will always ignore the differences in teams and not usually give time to improve. Spurs under Poch had an entirely different philosophy, fitness wise they weren't ready for it.

Poch did extremely well at southampton but he took over a squad 'ready' for his style, with Spurs he had to instil that style into the players and took a lot longer.

Southampton were already ultra fit and had a lot of very intelligent players like Morgan in central mid in particular. The previous Southampton manager who it's rude to forget the name of but I have, wasn't bad at all. He trained that team excellently, obviously(in terms of fitness), he was buying the right players, he just wasn't quite there tactically. Poch was able to be effective so quickly because of the squad he inherited and the work done by the previous manager. At Spurs Poch is doing the same job over time just starting with a squad, training and basically everything that was at odds with what he was trying to achieve.

i agree. the high press tactic isn't really anything knew and it's far from flawless; against a quick thinking, organised, acute passing team you run the risk of creating yourself a mountain to climb after 20 minutes but it's worked for us when we need it to with us actually scoring aswell and not just 1 or 2. 3 past villa, 5 past bournemouth, 4 past city.

liverpool game was an odd one, we looked a little timid first half, like we were letting them play. one could aslo argue that 8 goals past the likes of villa and bournemouth is what we should expect ( i'll put the city game down partly to hart being on the bench and us taking full advantage of whatever went wrong for city that day - i doubt it'll happen again ) but i believe that no matter the opposition, 8 goals in 2 games is something a fan should be happy with. if we can improve on conceding against the lower placed teams then that's further improvement.
