Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [31st August - 2nd September 2018]

Not sure what to make of that, good to get a win but Burnley were utterly awful.
The way we are playing at the moment its all about the 3 points

Utd really should have got at least 5 today (Lukaku should have got his hattrick even without the 2nd pen that should have been awarded)
Burnley really should have been down to 9 men (Mee and Bardsley should both have been off)
DDG starting to show his quality again with two very decent saves
Pogba with another stupid penalty....it was only a matter of time before he was found out, at least it didn't cost us points
Shaw was excellent again.....I can see him getting injured while on England duty...although the commentary did mention there was a possible issue with his shoulder with 20 minutes ot go (about when Sanchez was subbed...another pretty invisible performance from him)

Rashford was an idiot and deserved the red but Badsley should have got two yellows for the kick out and the original tackle let alone the yellow he actually got for the confrontation itself

Lukaku should have taken the pen imo otherwise great result considering previous results

don't like the pink away kit

I wouldn't get too carried away Burnley have been poor this season, whether that's down to fatigue of playing in European games mid-week I'm not sure but they're second bottom with 1pt for a reason.

I think it is far too early to write Man United off yet.

Man City have dropped a couple of points, Tottenham dropped three today. Sure 6 out of 12 points for the first two games isn't ideal, but it hardly means a thing at this stage.

Our first away win this calendar year...
Nope as said earlier we won away at Huddersfield last year.
Still good to get a win but we half didn’t make it difficult for ourselves. Our defence needs to sort itself out sharp-ish. Otherwise we will get ruined by other teams. Like I said had Cardiff finished better, I could see them taking all 3 pts.

Emery has said that Cech will continue to play the ball from the back even though he doesn’t look comfortable doing so. It’s caused a few issues today with Cardiff pressing high up the field today.

Anyhow onwards and upwards as they say.

Well 3 pts from a very scrappy game, not helped by our shoddy and frankly pathetic defence.

Not impressed by our performance today, should have smashed Cardiff into the ground today.

Laca with his rocket of a goal probably the only highlight of the game for me.

Had to catch up with MOTD due to being out all day.

I’d say another highlight was Auba’s goal. Took it sweet I thought?!

I really want to see what Leno is like for us, Cech’s footwork is painful at times. Not sure I can take much more of that, despite he can still save well with his hands.

Still so much work to do but I’m realistic in that until 3 transfer windows have passed we can’t judge to much yet. Will take time.

It does seem like a case of trying to teach an old dog new tricks. Things like conditioning can always be improved, improving tactical awareness... but a skill like footwork/ball control is developed early on in a career and refined over years. I'm not sure how much more 'learning on the job' I want to watch!

Exactly, Cech can't be blamed, he's still one of the old schoolers who just want to blast the ball away. The manager must take accountability for it. Did he even bring Leno in? Presumably he can't be any better with the ball if he's not being played?

Well he needs to adapt otherwise Emery will dump him and I wouldn’t have an issue with that.

Emery knows he is struggling but still has faith in him to adapt to his way of football. So will keep telling Cech play the ball from the back but at some point if Cech isn’t improving then he needs to be dumped and Leno or someone else comes in to take over.

He's 36, if he can't pass now, he'll never be able to so may as well sack him off now..

I don't understand why Leno was brought in, why spend half the transfer budget on a player you don't intend to use. Odd.
But I echo the statements made about giving Emery 3/4 years. It's never easy stamping your own mark on a club after a manager has been there for so long. We'll just end up going through managers like nobodies business if we sack managers every other year. Give him some time and money and see if there's a difference in style and conviction. If he finishes mid table, so be it, we need to support him and not flip flop about..

I'm sure he'll get used shortly once the Thursday night games get underway (and presumably the cup ones too), hopefully from there he can put in performances that then justify him being first choice.
