Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 11th April 2012]

Looking for 3 points when we play Palace at home on Saturday, they beat us at their ground so it's payback time. I'll expect it be like the away tie and 1 goal will win it. Then off to West Ham on the Monday, where hopefully West Ham will fall to pieces and we can take advantage. I'm hoping for at least 4 points out of 6 for these 2 games, which should keep us in 4th. In Hughton we trust !!!!!!

Though it was in the sun I saw Alladyce quoted as having a go at the fans again because they all think the football he has the team playing is woeful and not successful either. Alladyce seems bemused and trotted out the fact that they've only lost once in 12 games. That's my problem with managers like Alladyce, he thinks not losing = successful, he's spent a career making teams that are tough to beat, but is literally incapable of making a team that can win.

The squad and the costs of it(transfers and wages) put West Ham squarely in premier league territory, they should be playing premier league quality football and smashing the championship to pieces, he's not doing that and hence is failing quite badly. The problem is he has a team of players built for passing football, Nolan/Noble, Cole, Collison, etc, etc, and he's making them play football they are all worse at.

This stage of the season, 4 wins in that 12 run, with 7 draws, or ignoring the loss 14 points dropped and he should realise why the fans aren't happy.

Some managers should also simply remember that the results aside, football is entertainment, playing dire football and winning still isn't successful if you want to put fans in seats and especially if you want to entice enough punters to fill the olympic stadium.

West Ham owners have made one mistake after another, buying a bunch of woeful strikers who used to be good to try and keep West Ham up rather than simply letting the manager do his job and buy not past it players on huge wages, they'd probably never have gone down. They want to move to a bigger stadium, and think struggling in the championship and playing woeful football no one wants to watch will somehow add up to more income.... delusional.

Alladyce is the anti "newcastle" at the moment, big wages for the wrong players to play awful football, if they get up this year they'll struggle badly and like with Newcastle I can only see his "keep us in the prem" signings being players who used to be good on huge fee's, the kind that put Newcastle in debt for years and relegated. Promotion or not they have to get rid of Fat Sam.

I really hope you beat Palace on saturday, have the trip to them on monday and really don't want to face them in form like the home game (gave us a difficult game). West Ham are useless at home :D (apart from their irritating fans who threw money down at as, which seemed very stupid), they just don't seem able to win.

Hugton has worked miracles considering what's happened to Brum this season and needs applause for it.

Fat Sam is an IDIOT of the highest order. He came out to the "west ham style" thing by saying at least we are now winning! He's an arrogant idiot making a lot of very very over payed footballers play like Dagenham and Redbridge on a bad day!

He came out and said Southampton would be Dagenham without Lambert... (admittedly we do look poor without him some times but not that over the top). He plays mind games like a 5 year old and his single tactic is to lump it to the big front man and see what happens. Terrible when their top goal scorer is Nolan with 8!!!

West Ham are a sinking ship with only a few credible players (Green, Tomkins are the main two), the wages and the attitude of the club (prem by rights) are ruining them and I really want them to miss automatics (even if we have to loose to Reading on friday to make sure) because they do not stand a chance in the playoffs.

Sorry Sam has really really angered me this season, never seen such an underserving manager of a reputation of "good"

Quality! Round it off and come to Selhurst park on Monday for Palace vs saints? :p

Dagenham's stadium is a funny place to go, nicer than West Ham's too..... ;)

Looks like WHU is actually on the Monday so no Selhurst park for me. I last went to see Palace in Feb. It didn't stop raining the entire game, and we were sat in the only seats not covered by the roof... It's not fun when a whole home stand sings "It's too wet for you!" as you're sneaking out five minutes early...

Looking forward to D&R tomorrow though... been there once and lost 4-1 so I can't imagine it's going to be as bad as last time! I like Dagenham, John Still and their attitude towards the game - would really like to see them stay up this season.

You seeing the derby? Is it less exciting knowing that Pompy are in dire straights?

Ahhhh shame! Birmingham west ham probably will have more goals for you... Iv never been to Selhurst park so it'll be interesting for me (missed out a lot on games last time we were in the champ so making up for it this time).

D&R will be fun, they are an all right little team, they play fairly simple football but give a lot of effort and are fairly realistic about their ambitions. Like their manager too, one of the longest serving managers for league clubs.

Yep, season ticket holder so have been waiting patiently for this game :D (especially after the frustrating away game where they had half their illegal players still). It's all the more satisfying destroying them fully in the knowledge they are past falling apart. Just seeing them having to loan out half their first team because of the wage problem will mean a big will be that little sweeter...

Got to have a positive as I'm driving to the game so no drinking :(

tbh if you cant beat this Villa side at home then Dalglish needs to have a serious look at himself. Although the table doesn't lie Villa along with Wolves have been the two worst teams in the league this season imo

I do not think Dalglish is the issue if I am honest.

It's the poor team we have with what appears to be a CBA attitutde.

Even Gerrard looks dejected recently.

Aston Villa are in serious danger of getting dragged into the relegation battle if teams below them keep winning, they'd be in trouble now if not for that late winner against Fulham.

He's been there a year, he was there at the start of this season, his job is to motivate, cajole and if that doesnt work, kick the arse of any player who isnt motivated.

If its not Kennys fault the players dont care, whos fault is it?

Either way, regardless of what mood they are in, or what ever random selection of players he picks, if liverpool cant bury Villa he should resign with immediate effect as he clearly isnt fit to manage a club if thats the case.

He's the manager, the buck stops with him, the poor team is the team HE built, the motivation of the team is his responsibility, if the assistant manager isn't doing the job, or the coaches aren't coaching, its his responsibility to hire or fire them if necessary.

Poor team and their attitude is completely Dalglish's responsibility. You can get into arguments of "maybe Comolli did all the buying" which may/may not be valid. You can also get into debates of, maybe Comolli bought the right players and Dalglish isn't using them effectively. A lot has been said about baseball/moneyball and Comolli(and the league in general) use of stat's in the same way as baseball. It's well known that when the team's general manager(comolli) bought players based on the stats, the coach(Dalglish in this case) refused to "play ball" with the general managers plan and for quite a while the team failed miserably until the coach was forced into playing the way the general manager wanted the team to be played, suddenly instant and massive success.

I'm in no way saying Comolli got his buys right and its entirely Dalglish's fault, but there's more to it that just blaming Comolli even if he was entirely responsible for the buying of players and Dalglish had zero say.

I would guess the reality is somewhere in between, Comolli had a huge say in players but Dalglish was happy to have them, Comolli acting more like a scout than anything else. Both being wrong on some of the players, but Dalglish certainly seems to make a lot of tactical errors with the types of players he has.

Sometimes if you buy a striker who wants to get crosses, and you buy a crosser of the ball, you both need to get the training right, play a certain way, and start both players, otherwise its rather pointless.

Surely it would be more of a positive to beat them if they had a proper team not the situation they are in now?

In theory it would be, but in reality they have gotten away with fielding players they have no intention of paying the wages that attracted them to the club in the first place (cheating massively) so kicking them whilst they are down for being such a mess seems more or less needed as it'll be very annoying if that sort of mismanagement is allowed to continue in football

Correction by the way:
14.00 Reading - Leeds United Sky Sports HD1

:) Not looking forward to this game though :( the way leeds have played in recent weeks doesn't inspire any confidence against one of the best (possibly the best going by recent form!) teams in the league. Hopefully it'll be an entertaining game nonetheless

Yes, but is there a page that shows all of the games that are live on the BBC for the next few days and so on? Instead of having to look at every individual match page. :p

Ahhh, the 10 games they choose a season are "premium choice games" I think so its not chosen for tv till closer to the time and the bbc haven't put up a page showing with 10 they will show, just the games they have shown. Which is silly if you want to know more than a few weeks in advance...
