Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 11th May 2016]

Dear god yet again Sunderland manage to escape relegation lol.

Da hell is wrong with Everton?? Utterly hilarious how they got beaten 3-0 by Sunderland. Martinez showing that he really isn't that great a manager. He did well at Wigan and that's about it, of course his first season at Everton he did pretty well but as I say...it's that new manager syndrome that a lot of teams go through when they appoint a new manager.

But seriously how did Sunderland manage to escape relegation yet again lol.

Did he? He had them in a relegation battle for 3 years then took them down in his 4th. If he'd managed a few top 10s with them then that would have been seen as a god job. I've never understood why he was rated so highly or how he got the Everton job tbh.

Well another depressing time to be a Newcastle fan, I have known the club to be rubbish more than good in my lifetime now so I am under no illusion from a club point of view we obviously have failed massively and deserve to go down.

I am not one of those fans who hates Sunderland , I'd much prefer all 3 big north east clubs in the premier league, so congrats to Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

However I will say that Newcastle is probably a premier league city, people travelling to the North East I'd say more often than not would rather a night out or day out in Newcastle so it's a shame that this city will not be on the map for premier league away fans. Oh well, bad news. Who knows what is going to happen now, last time we smashed the Championship, I'd hazard a guess it's not going to be as easy this time round given our squad this time around.

Total shambles from the very top for years now though.

With the extra money being pumped in to the Premiership from next season the gap between the Premiership and Championship will get bigger than ever and it'll be extremely hard for Championship teams to get promoted and stay up. This season was not the season to get relegated.

I can't say I'm a big football at all but had a free ticket for the Sunderland game last night and atmosphere was amazing, it was almost lost on everyone that the team was celebrating finishing last ;)

Everton were really poor as they had plenty of chances to score, Sunderland very inconsistent for a side that was winning 3:0. One minute they are closing down and looking dangerous, next they are flat and play England-esque stand off defensive game.

It is fair to say that the January signings have saved Sunderland, defense has been relatively solid for once with Kone and Kaboul, Annholt and Yedlin were already a decent pair of full backs to supplement them. Kirchhoff has been great too as a holding midfielder, scrappy and solid (although gets gassed past 70 minutes) and Khazri of course has been outstanding.

Lot of rebuilding next season though for Sam as there's plenty of lemons in the squad since Sunderland have suffered from similar problems as Newcastle. There have been too many managers, legacy players, desperate signings over the years and it's just a bit of a mish mash. Defoe is also not a young man and I can't see anyone stepping up to his goal tally, I'm still not convinced by Borini. Not with his current ball control anyway, I've seen camels with better first touch.

Speaking of which sad to see Newcastle go down, it's not a pleasant experience to watch the club get gutted for Championship not to mention rivalry in the same league can only make the clubs stronger. That and not the best thing for the region but suppose there's Middlesbrough derbies now.

Try sprinting for 90 mins solid mate, bet you can't. That's why you have waves of pressure with repositioning.

Everton's problem judging by last night when we were closing down but couldn't win the ball back often, seems to be not knowing how to turn nice passing in to an attacking threat, despite having good attacking players.

I didn't get nervous about Everton scoring until about 70 minutes, most of their actual threat was when we were just playing out.

Never thought I would see a fellow Sunderland fan call PVA a good full back or Boro a derby :D

Calling me a fan would be a stretch, but I live here so need to follow the sport to have something to talk to my friends about :p

I have to be generous to Boro and PVA sure as hell beats Billy Jones heh.
