I can't say I'm a big football at all but had a free ticket for the Sunderland game last night and atmosphere was amazing, it was almost lost on everyone that the team was celebrating finishing last
Everton were really poor as they had plenty of chances to score, Sunderland very inconsistent for a side that was winning 3:0. One minute they are closing down and looking dangerous, next they are flat and play England-esque stand off defensive game.
It is fair to say that the January signings have saved Sunderland, defense has been relatively solid for once with Kone and Kaboul, Annholt and Yedlin were already a decent pair of full backs to supplement them. Kirchhoff has been great too as a holding midfielder, scrappy and solid (although gets gassed past 70 minutes) and Khazri of course has been outstanding.
Lot of rebuilding next season though for Sam as there's plenty of lemons in the squad since Sunderland have suffered from similar problems as Newcastle. There have been too many managers, legacy players, desperate signings over the years and it's just a bit of a mish mash. Defoe is also not a young man and I can't see anyone stepping up to his goal tally, I'm still not convinced by Borini. Not with his current ball control anyway, I've seen camels with better first touch.
Speaking of which sad to see Newcastle go down, it's not a pleasant experience to watch the club get gutted for Championship not to mention rivalry in the same league can only make the clubs stronger. That and not the best thing for the region but suppose there's Middlesbrough derbies now.
