Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [8th - 10th August 2014]

Gonna be a loooong season.

Two poor teams playing poorly. Terrible game!

Chris O'Grady made the worst debut I have seen today. he looks awful. The big guy up front for Wednesday isn't bad. We could do with someone like him

We had Chris O'Grady for a while; He's a tank, his acceleration is rubbish, but his pace when he's got some momentum is pretty dangerous (certainly in League One), he's very strong and physical. He's a right pain in the arse to get off the ball when he's on it, he's not that technical but can finish well, pretty ok composure. I've always thought of him as a good League One forward to be honest.

I was surprised he moved to Brighton because in all honesty I just don't think he's good enough for a Championship club that aspire to promotion.

Nuhiu? Wednesday's 'big guy' :), he's a bit of a cult favourite with the season ticket holders I sit with and talk to. He's fantastic, but he's not a 'typical' big man, I've always described him as a bargain bin Zlatan. He's technical very tidy (again, all this is relative), he's quick thinking and has good vision, he's also got a good array of passing and his link up play is often excellent, however what lets him down is he's not actually that good in the air, a big weak point is his jumping let alone heading, and he's slow, I mean, really slow. If he could lose a bit of weight, work on his acceleration and pace (he has a depressing inability to be unable to burst past a defender) then I think he could be very good.

Sorry I'm talking loads, wine :D.

Did you see the game?...more specifically, were you there?

Nah, Is this where you tell me that I'm not a 'real' fan? :p I listened to the match and had text updates. Sounded very much like Wednesday could have scored more; Brighton could (and probably should) of had another player sent off.

It was a pretty low shots on target for each side game.

No. I was gonna ask if you saw an incident that happened after the game. A Wednesday fan, just a kid, ran on to the pitch, which obviously he shouldn't have done, but the stewards went in really really hard on him. Thought they were well out of order myself. The Wednesday players stepped in(Semedo I think) to calm them down. There was nearly a riot!

As for the he game. Neither side played well, but there weren't really any more chances, except one that fell to the ridiculous Agustein (who is about 2 stone overweight and looks like he has never played football before) which was met by a world class save from Westwood. Wednesday kind of had chances to shoot on occasion , but seemed to want to pass it too much.

Don't think it will be a great season for either us unfortunately. Championship is far too competitive now. More than ever.

Wednesday i thought were one of the teams that might struggle a bit this year, though to see Westwood in goal is a good thing for them, underated he'll earn points.

The championship, you couldn't call it, someone will come to call and march on, but who...

We got the game nobody, or in a twisted way everybody wanted yesterday. Anybody would have nailed blackpool yesterday, hard to be inspired, sad for them, sad for us.

Hope the blackpool fans shout loud enough, it's p'poor whats going on.

Was a great start to the season for us yesterday, thought we played well... Kike looks like a fantastic signing, exactly what we needed :)

Lots of positivity around at the moment, Karanka seems to know what he is doing! Hope we can keep it up :D

An inauspicious start. We had a decent first half, but Charlton certainly started the better in the second. Got a lucky goal, but it was always coming in truth, before missing an open goal!

We equalised before putting them under considerable pressure at the end, but couldn't get the winner. We looked small and inexperienced, but I think our pace and movement will cause a few teams problems this season - if we avoid the drop I'd be delighted.

You will be delighted. There will surely be 3 worse teams this season than Brentford. Blackpool and Charlton I think will be two.

btw, Blackpool are 4/11 to get relegated!:o

I don't think Charlton are going to be quite as bad as most people believe. They've recruited very well, spent a lot of money and have moved a lot of crap out of their side. I reckon they could easily be mid-table this season.

Blackpool, Rotherham, Leeds, Birmingham and Huddersfield are the teams I'm hoping will fare worse than us this season. We're going to need a bit of experience in there, or we'll get bullied every single game - our midfield is tiny!

Hopefully we finish off the 3 or so transfers we've got in the pipeline!

That's really bad. Semedo is a bit of a tank and a fan favourite so it's no surprise he'd say something or try and help.

Speaking of taking people out though, there was some young banter boy in the city centre last night who decided he would try and out run the police officer (who resembled a human tank) but as it was soaking wet and the paving in the city centre is horribly slippy when wet, I got to watch as he attempted to run, only to absolutely face plant the floor, stand up, slip mid process and hit the deck again and a split second later have this human tank of a police officer in all his body gear absolutely smash in to him :D. Totally off topic, no idea what he did; sounded like he'd punched some unsuspecting guy over the guys girlfriend and then ran off. The police man was joined by two normal sized police officers and they absolutely pummelled him getting him in the van, was hilarious to be totally honest.

Anyway; back on topic. BT Sport is rubbish.

The Championship is a very tough league, I consider it (and have done for ~2/3 years) a much more competitive league than the Premier League, it's a really good quality of football too for the most part.

Some cracking football week in week out, quite a lot of the time I prefer it to a mid table Premiership match.

Wednesday have had a pretty good off season to be fair; done a bit better than I expected. Stuart Grey is doing very well, really good motivator and seems quite tactically astute. Would be very sad to see him leave the club, much rather him step down and become a coach if anything happened.
