It's only for obvious errors when it is a subjective decision. Offside is a matter of fact, you're either offside or onside and as such the clear and obvious thing doesn't apply.

It's not accurate the way it's done though, first you have to decide which is the earliest frame where contact with the ball is made which may not be accurate given that 25fps is one frame every 0.04sec, what if contact is made half way between 2 frames but 0.02sec later at the next frame the player has run offside? plus they're using weird camera angles rather than direct in line. If it's as tight as that it should be like in cricket where it's onfield call.
