Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 13th September 2011]

Wednesday smashed the MK Dons 3-1 in an unrelated piece of news

I dislike the MK Dons quite a lot so was very pleased with this! Palmer scored late on and Madine got two (he's an arsonist :D)

Just because everyone ignores anything that isn't from the top 5 teams i will pay you some attention and say well done! Cant stand Franchise FC either. Did marshall play?

Adam bashing seems a bit harsh, he's a great player and probably just needs a little time.
I'm probably not the best person to judge him because I didn't think much of him last season and didn't want him anywhere near Liverpool but...

most of his goals and assists last season came from set pieces despite him being at the centre of everything Blackpool did, he actually created very little from open play. This season he's going to get far less time on the ball so he needs to make every pass count and he doesn't appear to have the composure or ability to do that. Has relegated Gerrard to the Z list of Hollywood ballers though :o

I think he found his level at Blackpool and Liverpool will be a couple steps above him.

Yup

As I said he's easily our first choice winger (when JJ is crippled, will be interesting to see what happens when he's back fit actually) at the moment. He's playing quite well, but as I also said he's still some way of Premier League standard :)

I really do dislike MK Dons and how they came about so this was a good day :)

JJ must be an immense player at that level! I remember you beat us to sign him

On the subject of Begovic i wonder how long we can keep him. Such a talented player and only 23/24 super young for a GK, we have already had to beat chelsea off last Jan :D

Begovic is a good keeper 'tru 'dat ;)

JJ's alright, he's a one trick pony and is now a bit injury prone and "moody", but when he's on song, he destroys teams, he really is scary on form, and this season with a better side around him should be much more devastating.

Very good performance again today but like I said previously Bolton have been extremely poor this season and today was no different, Coyle has really changed them for the worse IMO

****** off about Cleverley, he reckons he's broken his foot, after Davies comments in the press this week the ref should have sent him off if not for that one on Cleverley then for the one on Evra

Davies is just a **** poor footballer. Makes stupid challenges and spends the whole match backing into defenders and falling over. Didn't he commit the most fouls last season, by quite a margin too? Like Crouch when he's climbing all over defenders flailing his arms about, the guys just dangerous. I haven't seen the tackle that put Cleverly out but if it's malicious hopefully he'll see some retrospective punishment.

tbf I was going a tad extreme, the one on Cleverley was poor but probably not a straight red, it's a joke that he's broke his foot and he didn't even get a yellow for it though

Glorified set piece specialist that moonlights as a professional footballer when he's not at home in Burger King.

On a side note, get your ******* grass cut :p

As I've said to you before, the only person happier than Adam when he signed for us was Kuyt because he'll get an easier time from you now :p

He didn't have a good game today but he was no where near as bad as you and others have made out. He was hammered at HT by you for giving the ball away yet his pass completiong stats at HT were no different to Lucas's. He had that 5 minute spell around the 30min mark where he gave away the ball 3-4 times in a row and people went way overboard with their criticism.

He is/was an unfashionable player so was always going to have to prove himself and it's not a surprise that he puts in 3 decent performances with minimal praise and then he has 1 not so good performance and get's hammered :/

Oh you'll be surprised to know that despite being a fat git, Adam covered more ground than any other Liverpool player in our opening 3 games :p

We needed another CM and for £7m we couldn't have got anybody better than him.

well im unbiased and was at the game and id say he was easily the worst Liverpool player today

I'm pretty sure that I'm unbiased when comparing Liverpool players against each other too, and I didn't think Adam played well but equally I didn't think he played that badly either. He had that spell midway in the first half where he gave the ball away a few times in a row but other than that he didn't done a lot wrong. It wasn't a free flowing game so it wasn't going to be easy for him to shine though.

His individual performance and the side's as a whole was strange; we weren't great but we didn't play poorly and 9 times out of 10 we'd have got some sort of result today.

I don't think many sides will go away to Stoke and restrict them to as few opportunities as we did (I can't recall Reina having to make a meaningful save all game) or create as many chances as we did either (particularly in the 2nd half).

A stupid mistake from Carragher, some poor finishing and a couple of mistakes from the ref cost us today.

Just back from the game and the post match drowning of sorrows.

Positives:
We had enough chances to win the game by 2 or 3, easily, with a bit of composure
Downing looked good

Negatives:
We don't have a natural finisher anymore to put away those 1 on 1's we create with 100% certainty, imo swapping Torres (LFC form) for Suarez has boosted our chance creation significantly, but our poaching/ability to score is weaker.

Henderson, don't have to explain this surely.

The officials, seriously they need demoting to League 1 for a few weeks.

Stoke fans - Amazingly classy chants today lads, especially liked the one comparing the dead welsh fan to Bellamy re: it should have been him instead
Not to mention the Boooooooooooooooooo chant, didn't hear anything else from these lot but i've been used to it at the Brit, still at least pointless atmosphere is better then no atmosphere at all /me looks at Chelsea ;)

I should also add that it was mentioned to me by a stoke fan that the grass was left long, and the pitch was shortened in width by quite a chunk, which i thought was against the rules to change pitch dimensions mid seasons but apparently it only applies competition wide, so it means they can as long as they keep the dimensions the same for all European games, and all PL games, keep changing between the UEFA minimum and the PL minimum, which is quite significantly shorter.

Which annoys me slightly, but you have to do what you have to do i guess, small things like that .. the long throw 'fiasco' Quote Mr Wenger etc are probably why Stoke's been in the PL for a few seasons now, and other newly promoted teams have come up and gone back down on a regular basis.

It genuinely continues to shock me that in the modern game there isnt a standard size for pitches. It seems like such a basic thing and has a huge impact on the game yet no one seems to mind the variations.

To the Liverpool chaps, how's Downing doing?

Good.

Mark Clattenberg, what a complete an utter ****ing shambles of a referee, was he the one at Rooney elbow thing last year?

Our chance creation was decent, pity no one to finish we shouldn't have had to rely on the three or so penalties we deserved and Suarez missing an open net, Hendo's one on one etc.

Some really nice football by Stoke today though.
