Now due to living circumstances I don't have anyway to cook fresh food, execpt a micro.

Thinking about getting one of these, is it a case of picking the best George Foreman? Or are there anything better on the market?

I know how it is mate :(

You could always buy one of those little ovens, a guy across the hall from me used to cook chicken kievs, chips etc all the time! I miss him now... the corridor doesn't smell as nice :p

Steamer (veg and fish) (~ £8 for an Asda smartprice one - i've used mine for 2 years) and George Foreman (meats) are an awesome combo! :)

I keep meaning to investigate replacing my George Foreman.

It has removable plates, but the heat is uneven, and it's not as hot as I would like it to be in order to cook burgers just right.

I love that it gets the fat and grease out, I don't like greasy food.

I don't know if the flaws in mine are because of the design, or just a friday afternoon machine. I need to find that out before I replace it. Removable plates is essential in my opinion though.

With a microwave and a 'Foreman', you should be able to survive for a while.

Best of luck.

Lol, I still have 'normal' food but its all cooked for me at set times.

So pretty rubbish at the weekends at nights when trying to eat more so having to deal with Asda packed chicken which isn't ideal.

To be fair Zefan the Mess here ain't bad, its just getting more food which sucks!

george formans are great and they cook the meat really quick. pain in the arse to clean if you dont get the easy clean ones though!

You have the right idea, microwave and George Foreman. all the cooking a man needs. When you get one you will find out you can make almost everything on it. make a cheese toasite, OMG its so good in a foreman. DO NOT attempt to make an omlette, it is not a frying pan. Trust me!

Little electric steamer and a george foreman could keep me going for yonks.

tip for cleaning the george, switch it on and when its hot put a wet cloth between it and steam it a bit, gets most of the real tough crap off.

Anyone any comments about George Foremans with removable plates? Is it just the one I have, or do other people experience poor or uneven heat?

You can! There needs to be some lube () on the side bit, though... so either a tiny bit of oil... or just drag a bit of bacon across quickly, haha.

We're going to experiment with using a round cookie cutter thing to cook eggs on that bit, at some point, too.

You can get egg ring thingys at most decent kitchen shops. In funny shapes too :D

One of the guys on my floor bought a foreman for our kitchen, it made incredible toasties but kept throwing our switches. Luckily, the fridges and freezers were on a different ring, but our oven was not :(
