i was wondering that. i get a grind 2nd to 3rd sometimes when absolutely belting my car... my car has an excust tho, 171,000 excuses plus being a gti its more than likely been driven hard a lot.
im sorta hoping it does... i can then take it all off and put a light weight flywheel in
Not just the box, the engine!
Nothing wrong with 171k on an engine. I've seen engines rack up huge mileage, as in 300k. People these days see 100k as something huge, when it really isn't.
My car is at 129k, and it's loving every mile more I put on it.

ford MT75 gearboxes have notoriously weak synchros on third.

ford MT75 gearboxes have notoriously weak synchros on third, when my gearbox went it was third that had the most damage by a mile! my old 2l mondeo would grind into 3rd on very odd occasions, and even with my gearbox sorted, high rev really quick shifts into third still catch very slightly every now and then. Dangerous' ST220 did too iirc. and they all use (in slightly different variations) the MT75 gearbox that i assume the focus will use too.
Does having the synchro knackered do anything else to the gearbox, it doesn't sound pleasant so I expect it can do damage?
Ive not experienced this with my Focus but today it wouldn't go into reverse.
