Morning All,

Have a quick Q if anyone could shed some light? My gf has a Renault Megane (00 V Plate) which was MOT'd a few months ago. On the MOT they flagged the fact the "wheel bearings are worn" (her words) on the front but they should be OK. A few weeks later a grinding noise started towards the front of the car - it grows louder as you accelerate but stays constant at speed so it is not the engine, could this be the wheel bearing problems?

I dropped the car off at a garage this morning for them to look at - could anyone shed some light on whether it is likely to be the bearings and how much it should be'ish to fix (as it is not at my normal garage so have no idea of their reputability).

Thanks in advance, Cheers,
Jamie.

Excellent, thanks for the replies, does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to fix? I have seen quotes for about £200 around on the net, does this sound about right?

ci_newman - I'm going to make your right foot into a necklace

Looking on GSF, the bearing *could* cost either £15 or £45 depending on if they need the kit or just the actual bearing.

It shouldn't be more than a couple of hours labour so my best guess would be £200 at the very most (and that should be Renault pricing)

Yep bearings are cheap and the labour will be a lot more.

Could also be a stone stuck in the brakes. That will also make a grinding noise but since it was flagged as the bearings it's probably that.
