I hate these things ... for some reason they are doing 40mph in 30mph zones forcing you to stay behind them or be done by a gatso!

I try ... but as they are not doing a constant speed I am constantly "in the grit/salt stream". Are they allowed to speed btw?

I hate these things ... for some reason i found one doing 40mph in 30mph zones which forced me to stay behind them or be done by a gatso! i got very irate and went into an OcUK rage

Corrected for you.

Hardly think every gritter goes round speeding everywhere doing 40 in a 30 ;)

no they're not allowed to speed, but hey ho.

Here's a novel idea, how about overtake them where there ISNT a gatso? :s

Or for even more lulz, overtake them whilst going through a Gatso, time it correctly and the gritter will block the camera as you speed past killing 5 million jews and a clown

I still don't understand how if they are doing 40 and you are doing 30 that they are a pain, surely they will be increasing the gap between you and them!

The faster they go, the more miles they cover, chuck the grit out at the same rate as going at 30 and in 1 hour they have done 10 extra miles.

So stop doing 40 in a 30 or overtake them. Or are GATSOs back to back where you live?

Following them like you claim to have to guarantees you get done by a GATSO, unless they actually don't do 40 everywhere.

If said gritter truck is doing 40 mph in a 30 zone, then aint you also doing 40 if you are getting annoyed following so close. Overtake or not, at 40, like said above you are going to get done by the gatso anyway for just following the gritter at 40 mph. did you see any camera flashes going off in your rear view mirror for you and the gritter???

Perhaps your speedo is over optimistic and the gritter is going a little over the limit so the cars that are not driving like tools and speeding in these conditions don't get a face full of grit if they sit behind it at the limit - the gritter in theory would pull away albeit slowly.

Surely a far better idea would be to get the damn things off the roads anyway, I mean, Ice? Snow? any real driver can handle that and the gritters are obviously redundant.

Jesus! :p:D

In this situation (I hate having the front of my car sandblasted), I pull over, chill, let a couple of cars go past and then set off again.
