Group interview at supermarket-asda

EUGH get off your high horses about working in ASDA. I bet you lot would be the first to have a go at someone for sitting on their bum doing sweet FA on the dole. Its pathetic to judge someone's job like that. I actually found working in ASDA a really interesting experience and I got to meet a lot of really great people.

For the interview, just be friendly, confident (but not overly so) and listen to what they tell you in an interested way. During have a go make a really strong effort to actually pack someones bags and make polite conversation with the customers, (if thats what they have you doing). You'd be amazed the number of people who just keep their heads down and dont even actually pack anything.

I have an interview session at asda on tuesday consisting of

Some interesting team challenges
A short interview
A tour of the building
Insight into Asda and the roles we offer
A chance to “Have a Go”

Anyone got any pro-tips on this kind of thing?

Also
Do dress appropriately for the event, something smart but casual would be perfect (no trainers please). You want to make the right impression but obviously you’ll be getting involved on the shop floor so nothing too formal.

black jeans/white shirt/black shoes too formal? Or could I get away with white tshirt+ plain cotton jumper with the above (comfier)

What the hell is - A chance to “Have a Go” Perhaps its security training on how to tackle agressive shop lifters...........:D

Most of the judging not about the job and the interview process, which seems to be about Asda making people look stupid then secretly recording it for the Christmas party or "You've Been Framed" :p

My girlfriend did one of these last night, and I've got one on Tuesday too.

Basically, hers involved going into the room, and everyone was told to arrange themselves by birth month order. They then paired up, and found out information about the other, name, age, hobbies etc, why they want to work for asda, and if they were to go into space, what 2 items they'd take. They then introduced the other person to the group.

They were then given a group exercise, and had to make the tallest tower possible using dry spaghetti and marshmallows.

Hope this helps :)

IS this ASDA house in Leeds? I had a similar sort of thing. Didn't get the job, but met Pele! He was in there doing a book signing. Shook his hand, and off I went!

I was always told to dress one level above what you would normally be expected to wear during work.

i.e. if its casual dress at work, wear smart casual to the interview.

sounds like u had it easy. the one i turned up for many years ago we had to get into teams and had to enact a freakin advertising commercial for a chosen product, it was like the apprentice only the job at the end didnt end in 5 zeros!

Don't bother unless you're really desperate. If you're young try and get a job at a call centre or something a bit more refine that will give you better experience and useful skills that will look good on your CV.

I wouldn't be so snobby, I landed a fairly respectable job by talking about my experiences at KFC. Working at a supermarket can have a number of transferable skills, particuarly customer service, but also food preparation and hygiene.

I always watch them make my Mini Fillet burgers by hand without any gloves!

I wouldn't be too upset, a timer should be going off every 15 minutes to tell people in the kitchen to sanitise their hands.

Yea, but I don't know if they go ahead and scratch their arses before 15min are up :p. I actually just order pieces of chicken these days as it's likely the most sanitary option in there.

I wore a shirt, trousers and shoes to my interview with ASDA. Just show your personality in the group interview and try not to be too reserved.

A job is a job so good on you for working, it's better than not working, large companies like Asda have chances to improve your self along the way.

As for the group interview, its just ice breakers and a team effort task, just get stuck in and make the most of it. we had to make a giraffe out of A4 paper, tallest one wins ! better than being grilled by some gestapo interviewer :)

Smart casual, no jeans or trainers but smart without a suit and tie etc

Good luck, and enjoy your self, think of your first months wage :)

I worked at ASDA for nearly 2 years when I left school.

The group interview is nothing to worry about, they just try and make it more fun than the usual 1 on 1 interviews.

We all played The Price is Right, it was a really good laugh.

Just go, shirt and trousers and smart shoes as it's not about being the best looking.

I don't know about the interview etc but in relation to ASDA, if you get the job find out WTF is going on with their Custard Cream biscuits and why they've changed the flavour because I am enraged about it!

You cannot guarantee that their hands are always clean. Cheap, expandable gloves, always cleaner.

All the best chefs in the world cook with no gloves on I would be more surprised seeing a cook with gloves on than I would one without, hell I cook with no gloves on even when we have people round and nobody has dies yet. I even cook outside in the open air with a can of beer in one hand dear lord it's a miracle the dysentry hasn't killed me!
