Group of lads jumped on my new car last night

Well.....I guess a good place to start is at the begining,

22:15 last night my neghbours started banging on the front door and ringing the doorbell. Turns out a few minutes earlier they witnessed a car pulling up outside my house, a young lad jumped out and proceeded to jump all over my new car :( whilst the rest of them video'd it on their phones.

Amazingly, no damage was done....how, I honestly don't know. The car I have is very weak and can damage easily.

My neighbours have identied the car in question (the idiot only lives around the corner), and I spotted it this morning and took a photo of his numberplate.

There is a co-cop opposite and I have submitted a CCTV request to see if they have managed to record anything.

I've also just this minute installed a nest security camera covering off the driveway.

Question....if I manage to get enough information do I go to the police, or could it end up making matters worse. The last thing I want is for them to comeback (or a friend), and mark the car for a future keying!

Bloody idiots!!

Hopefully the camera stops anything like that from happening again.

I really wish I could park it in my garage, but to cut a long story short, when we bought the property the builders gave us a nice few grand as the angle of entry was very tight, and at the time we were happy.

Might get a few quotes to see how much it would cost to extend out to a double garage so we can get the car in. Thinking a good £10k though.

There is that I agree but often there are other details that get left out or forgotten because they were totally innocuous. Say for example OP drove past them and they felt he should have let them out or something, they may get triggered by that and use that as an excuse next time they see the car. Not saying it wasn't 'jealousy' but I feel it's usually more than that.

I've hardly left the house in three months :p

Definitely follow this up with the Police OP, you know where the car resides, there is potential for CCTV through a FOI request with Co-op. Don't let them get away with it.

My anxiety would be through the roof parking outside either way now and I would be looking into making my garage useable if I were you.

Lovely car by the way.

I just hope the camera does the trick

Is it parked on a driveway? Your OP doesn't make it clear when you say you installed a Nest camera covering off the driveway?

Yeah driveway, I'm going to get some quotes to see how much extending the garage will cost. There's dead space to the side anyway which should be put to use.
It's something I've wanted to do for years anyway.

Just to play "devils advocate" for a second - Even a 7 year old "jumping up and down" on a modern car WILL damage it and leave shoe prints on it never mind an adult.

Are you absolutely sure that someone has jumped on your car (any footprints, dents, scuffs etc) and that your neighbour hasn't made a mistake and seen the guy stood on the top of the tyres, rather than on the car body?

There isn't a single mark on it, but they were adamant one lad ran over the car.

My thoughts as well. Because modern cars, just a little tap on them, you get a dent.

They are really nice neighbours, mother and son. They both came out at ten o'clock last night in the dark to let me know. That said, the car is absolutely fine.

I've just been round to see them. They went through the whole thing again and didn't come across as making it up. They said he was a big bloke.

Hopefully the coop CCTV will show something up.

It is strange though as these cars are incredibly weak and will dent very easily.

Mind you, I have a 2012 plate Ford and I have sat my daughter on its bonnet a few times and she's about 25kgs in weight so could be possible. I think really it's not a matter of damage or not but rather why would someone do that and they only live round the corner.

I'm hoping he's just an idiot as opposed to actually someone targeting you....

We keep ourselves to ourselves, only our direct neighbours really know us

I am amazed there isn't any damage

I just can't understand why they would do this. It was clearly targeted.

As other posters have mentioned, I'm surprised there's no damage to the car given he's a big person. Are you sure you're not fooling yourself into saying there is no damage (e.g. to avoid the hassle of getting it repaired)?

From your posts, you seem more concerned about the car than getting justice. Based on this, I'd install CCTV and a security light to deter them whilst waiting to get the garage sorted. In any case, I wouldn't recommend taking matters into your own hands by going around there/letter box justice/shoe on roof/etc, especially not when you're dealing with somebody who clearly has a lot less to lose than you do.

No, there literally isn't a single mark on it. No dents, no footprints, no scratches....there's nothing. I'm waiting for the co-op to come back to me first before deciding what to do. CCTV has already been installed, I think I did mention this a few pages back.
I got a nest cam, which seems to be pretty good.

The neighbours identified the car, I've seen it and have his numberplate. Imagine the co-ops CCTV comes back and says there was no car between 22:00-22:15. Things would definately take a turn then.

I must be missing something.

I would expect a mark or dent. Trainers would leave sole marks or imprints unless the car is immaculate (it looks it) but being parked outside (no pollen/dust etc?). I am assuming that the said youth likely took a running jump onto the bonnet?

I cant see them walking up and slowly easing themselves onto the bonnet, to the roof? If some youth clambered on top of my car, the roof/bonnet would cave in!

P.S. It's a lovely car!

I don't think you're missing anything

Regarding the dust, there is a smooth unbroken covering all over the car

Yeah it's all very strange, neither possibilities make sense. If the neighbours are making it up, both mother and son are in on it, and have gone to great lengths to do this.

I really hope the coop CCTV comes through. Regardless of anything, it would have at the very least caught the car in question. If it doesn't, I know my neighbours are lying.

Thing is, if they have made it up, that in itself is risky. They didn't know I wasn't looking out the window at the time, and actually it was them who told me about the CCTV at the coop.

Nothing adds up.

It really doesn't strike me as a lie, but I know my car and unless he floated over it, there's no way there wouldn't be any damage.

I've seen a TT where the wind has blown the door into a window sill causing £2000 worth of damage as the door literally bent in half. They are very weak cars.

What will the CCTV prove? If the lads were at a store at said hour and...

How can this be linked to your car?

As pointed out there are strict controls on releasing CCTV footage? Something is not adding up - not wanting to throw around accusations but as mentioned, I would safeguard your property, and leave it at that.

If there was no car captured during the time it proves the neighbours are lying.

If it shows them parked outside my house, and someone getting out and running down my driveway then that's different.

Sorry I should have said, our house is nearly opposite where the coops camera is.

I'd love to be able to post a conclusion to this thread rather than leave it open ended and up for debate.

The form has been filled in so just waiting to hear back. If it comes to nothing then fair enough.

Well the plot thickens,

The co-op have just phoned me to say they have heard back from their security team. They say in order for me to see the video myself I have to go to the police, however they have seen the video themselves and confirmed a car did pull up outside my house, a lad jumped out and ran down my driveway and what looked like two others holding phones recording it. The car matched my neighbours description.

So there you have it....

Regarding me living in a bad neighbourhood....no. The houses here are much more expensive due to the low crime and the fantastic two local schools. We have been here 12 years and up until now had no trouble at all. I guess you get idiots anywhere you live.

Unfortunately the co-op CCTV only covers 1/4 of my house and driveway. The car is out of view. The only thing it shows is that the car in question pulling up for a couple of mins, someone jumping out and running down the driveway whilst two others are recording it. Now, I know there are some stupid people out there, but why would you record someone running down a driveway? I'm inclined at this point to believe my neighbours. They have a very clear view of our driveway from all of their windows and would have easily seen what was going on.

Is it possible that the neighbors misinterpreted what they saw from their angle of observation? Could he have been simply stood next to it jumping up and down but obscured by a fence or something? An adult simply can't walk or jump on a car and not wreck it, leaving no mark and not even disturbing the pollen/dust on it...not possible*.

* Unless he's a ghost

This is the thing. My neighbours have a direct line of sight straight down my entire drive and would have easily seen everything. In fact, they have a better view than we do. I have already been round for a good chat, and again they are 100% they ran down my driveway right to the end, then double backed running as fast as they could, and jumped on my bonnet, on to the roof, then jumped off.

The photo op theory isn't a good one, as this was ten oclock at night and was fairly dark.
