Hi there just been looking through the settings of my macbook and at the bottom of the options box i see a thing called growl.
What the heck is it and how did it get there?
I dont ever remember seeing it there before, is it something to do with apple or have i got it on there by mistake?

Thanks

Probably agreed to install it at some point along with a separate application. It displays update for applications, like instant message updates in Adium or when a new track starts in Last.FM.

So i dont really need it then? Its linked to something called handbrake, which i no longer have was trying to do something a few weeks ago lol.
How do i remove it?

Many things use growl, to find out what you've got installed which can use it, double click the icon in system preferences and click on the applications tab. Personally I'd just leave it there.

Growl is genius. Dont get rid of it. Its just a universal notifier. Lets you know when you have a new email, torrent has finished, ftp files uploaded etc.

One of the programs I couldnt do without.

I personally don't like it, I know it's good for a lot of universal apps but I just hate popups!

I even hate the icons jumping too :p

Hmmm i have never had any notifications on emails or anything with it, maybe i need to configure it?

Yeah you need to head into the pref pane and muck about in there to set it up.

AmTechFox, I do know what you mean. If its a popup I will ignore then it does my head in. Someone mentioned it for adium earlier but that does my head in. Random popups that are unexpected and ignored. By default it is set up to popup every time someone signs in. Get a few pop ups every minute!
