Bought an Asus p8z77-m listed as two months old (used). Alarm bells should have been ringing. Why do you sell on a working two month old z77 mobo? You probably don't, unless you've suddenly become desperate for money.

Arrives and I wait for the weekend to fit it. And of course in one corner of the CPU socket the pins are all bent and fubar'd.

Chances of getting my money back? The seller states he doesn't accept returns.

I used "Buy it Now" and it wasn't listed as an auction. I think that makes a difference doesn't it.

Can the seller refuse to take it back as faulty? Can he say I bent the pins and get away with it? I haven't attempted to fit any CPU but that's my word against his.

Have since bought the same mobo direct from OcUK for an extra 50% cost, but 100% peace of mind :p

If you paid with paypal you can relax somewhat. Contact the seller through eBay and inform him/her of the problems - always give people the chance to sort things out, you'd be surprised how many decent folk there are on eBay (there is more moronic buyers than sellers IMO)

If you get no joy within a reasonable time frame (say 1 week) then raise a case in the eBay resolution doohicky. If returning goods always use the "I want to return this item" link, keeps everyone straight. If you follow the simple rules eBay lays out you will not lose out, minus maybe return postage (but again, the seller may be decent if you give them the chance)

Open the paypal case, job done.

Don't know why we get this same thread every few days.

I tried to open a case but it said "you must contact the seller first before opening a dispute". So I've dropped him an email. We'll see if he's one of the good guys or one of the bad guys.

I know a lot of people sell things for other people, so he might have sold it in good faith that it worked.

Are there any time limits to opening a dispute? I'm thinking of giving the seller a couple days to respond, then opening one ASAP...

Pretty sure the time limit is 45 days from the sale. I had to do this recently with a graphics card and thankfully the seller was a good egg. Hope yours go ok too.

Even if he listed it as faulty paypal would still side with you, so you've got nothing to worry about in this case. If he refuses to play ball they'll eventually just take the money out of his paypal or leave him in negative balance if he dosen't have any funds.

Just FYI but, If the seller listed it as 'for parts or not working', then you don't stand a chance of a refund. If he didn't, then simply send a message and give it a week for him to reply before escalating it to a claim.

With a feedback score of 424 and 100% positive feedback it seems foolhardy of him to sell something as fully working which is so obviously faulty.

hell just say you did the damage, might be hard to prove him wrong,at the end of the day it will fall on ebay customer services to decide the outcome

You guys sell on Ebay a lot? I do, and i can tell you, the OP can pour petrol on the board light it up, video it in HD and send it to paypal and they'll still refund him.

I have had people just like you buy stuff, that I know was working, break it, and then try to get their money back  funny how when you offer to test it for them and send out a replacement if faulty the messages stop and they keep the item  some people make me sick. buy something, moan in the hope of a partial refund as compensation. as if they didn't get it cheap enough anyways. and if they didn't, well shame on them for bidding more than they wanted to pay  *

on a serious note, just message them, wait 3-5days and if no joy contact paypal. you will get your money back eventually, doesn't help if you wanted your build finished and have to wait 6 weeks to get your money back to replace the board.

this is in jest, do not take it seriously under any circumstance

well he's completely ignored my messages for 5 days, so I opened a dispute. a few days after opening, he is still ignoring my messages.

as you said, it's odd behaviour for someone with so much positive feedback.

Thanks for the update FoxEye.

I had something similar happen to me, except it was for an item that didn't arrive, and absolutely no comms from the seller. I did what you did, except that I opened the case on eBay instead of Paypal. 1st stage is that I have to contact the seller, and if the seller doesn't respond in 10 days time, eBay CS intervenes. So the seller never got back to me, the magic date passed, I clicked on a few drop-down menus to say that the seller never responded, and CS responded within 10 minutes to say that I've been fully refunded including p&p. This was at 11PM during the Olympics' opening ceremony, so pretty impressive that someone got back to me that quickly at that time of night.

It's pretty much automated, if the seller doesn't reply and the date passes, ebay will always refund.
