Grrr, some people are scum :@

Dude. There are much, much, much worse things happening in your street, my street and every street in the country right now.

You really can't get so worked up over a pinched bike, it's unhealthy!

Yeah I appreciate that it may be a small event in most peoples eyes. But to someone who only owns a few items this really isnt very welcoming thing to happen having only lived here for a month.

I think most people on these forums have had a bike nicked at some point, had a couple go from my garage as a kid, unlucky, i wouldn't lock up a push bike randomly in a street unless it was a major city centre bike specific holding area, just asking for someone to randomly come along with bolt cutters and take it.

Its this attitude that we are to expect an underlying level of crime; that it is OK in a way is why Britian is in the state it is. There should be a zero tolerance level when it comes to crime. Build more prisons if necessary, but I'm tired of people getting cautions and a slap on the wrist for stuff like this.

It is wrong to belittle this guys loss. Perhaps bikes are a dime a dozen for you and if it gets nicked so what, you can buy a new one.

All crime is wrong dont forget that.

Build more prisons at the expense of other public services just so people can be held longer for petty crimes

I actually think most people would support it. I for one would like to see my local taxes going to something worthwhile. I only use the local roads and bin collection/dump, nothing else.

If they looked at the disablity payments people get there would a whole lot more money for prisons. EG a guy who I know has a bit of a limp and has convinced his local GP that he should be getting the highest level of disability payments. He drives around in a new Astra Sport (paid for by us all) doing no work (although he can work 16 hours a week and it not effect his benefits!) and get this he clears £700 a month (that is after all house rent, and utility bills). This is only one example I could give far far more.

Perhaps my perspective prior to starting my MSc and joining a highly culturally diverse community. This has taught me that some people come to this country to better themselves and to benefit from opportunities that are unavailable in their own country, this sort of attitude towards people is totally unfair and should have no place in society.

goreblast, you are clearly amongst a small number of sensible members on this forum and your opinions and comments have been noted and are appreciated.

Didn't start this thread for a slating between nations so would a Don/Mod please close this thread. Thank you goreblast for your comment.

I hope you're just looking for a response rather than actually demonstrating any belief in that statement

Just adding some light humour to the thread, obviously you are not familiar with the many posts here and on various other forums about various scammers :D

Listen mate. Nobody said petty crime is OK, and i am accutely aware that all crime is crime, regardless.

What i am saying, is that this is so common that you can't get worked up by something so small. It's not going to have a drastic effect on this guys life, it'll simply put him out a bit.

If you and the OP get so worked up over something so small then you are either unaware of all the horrible things that go on aropund us, or you're in a mental ward somewhere because the stress of everyday life is too much.

Of course, if he had stayed in Nigeria then no one would have stolen his bike. Yeah, right.

Not exactly crime of the century now is it.
