Was expecting a parcel last week from Animal and it was sent royal mail.

They failed to deliver due to us being out so left a card. I arranged for redelivery and that failed to happen.

So I went to the local sorting office where its supposed to be and .... can't find it

Now I am a little concerned due to the type of tracking used.
Its not signed for, its royal mail tracked. This it seems the royal mail record they have delievered rather than me signing for it.

Checking the online parcel tracking today its showing "We have a record of item xxxxxxxxxxxxxGB as being delivered from Bury St Edmunds DO on 2012-11-11" Now since when have royal mail delivered on a Sunday, plus the fact one of us was in all day yesterday, and also that someone has been in all day today. Its basically not been delivered and they have lied saying it has...

What the hell do I do now go to the sorting office again or nuke them from orbit?

recorded should still be signed for, but as has been said get on to the retailer it's them that have the contract with RM and should chase them not you.

I had a card left once when I was out and instead of going to the sorting office to collect it I arranged for it to be sent to the local post office. I went along to the post office on the date it said it would be ready to collect, it wasn't there. Post office wife told me to come back next day. Next day came and it still hadn't turned up. Turns out it was still at the sorting office waiting for me to collect from there. Now I don't bother trying to re-arrange anything and just go directly to the sorting office.

Do you live in a house where it could have been left somewhere outside?
Do you have neighbours you get on with, so could check if it was left with them?
If it was a regular Royal Mail tracked delivery and not a large item that would require a van, its likely your usual Postperson who delivered it, so why not ask him/her?

But its tracked not recorded.

I've emailed the retailer but now its shows delivered I would bet my last $ they say "huh its delivered Royal mail have confirmed"

afaik that means they should still get a signature on delivery it just means until it gets delivered they wont have clue where it is in the system.

Yes we do but its been checked. We live in a town house so no front garden as such. Only round the back where there is no sign of it.

Yes we get on with neighbours but one side havent been there. The others would drop it round asap and I spoke to her yesterday afternoon... Plus of course there was no need to give it to a neighbour as we were in (well one of us was) all weekend and we didn't get another failed delivery card.

I would have expected a van delivery, a slightly smaller parcel a couple of weeks ago (also Animal and tracked) came via van.

I dont see the normal post person very often, and I think its highly unlikely it would be delivered by this person, 10 items such as this would fill his trolley.

Nope had another item from animal a few weeks back, it seems to be some internal tracking, maybe linked to Animal as well. All that happened is that the van driver "ticked" the box on screen to say delivered. He didnt ask for a name or a signature or anything.

Wrong.

There's 2 types of Tracked that we use (yeah I'm a postie) both identical products but one has to be signed for and the other version doesn't. The barcode on the item is scanned at Delivery and a signature is obtained if required or the item is posted/handed to customer.

They'll both have a code on it, same as what you find on a Recorded or Special Delivery item.

Tracked items are literally tracked from collection to delivery. Either way, once it's delivered (with or without a signature) the PDA the postie uses uploads the data to say whether it's been delivered on not delivered.

Also, some times deliveries do happen on Sundays, just not letter mail deliveries as packet & parcel backlogs get cleared by people doing overtime.
