Bah... the gf just got up to goto work and some nice person had given the boot to the offside mirror. Its a y-reg focus with heated/electric mirrors and it looks a right mess.

Ive been driving for 7 years and have NEVER had to claim for anything insurance wise-- ive never even had a scratch upto now. Am i best claiming or just paying myself ? ive got fully comp but im wondering if they are gonna be arsey down the line and try to claim we did the damage and get out of it somehow. Ive just checked the policy and we have a £200 excess on damage caused by the driver ( which this isnt ) but im assuming that they will want a crime number to assume them it was done on the street overnight?
Will claiming make a marked effect to my next policy do you think>?

Sorry to hear that, people are just scum :( I'd not be going through insurance for something like that though. For me it'd cost far more than the repair on my next premium (yours may be different though).

Mick.

AGH just noticed they have also kicked the plastic collection rear bumper in the wheel arch. Its now snapped and loose!!...... grrrrrrr

At least there is no scratches or anything else i can see. Looks like they did another car up the road as well.

no way would i be claiming on insurance. You should be able to get one from a scrappy cheap.

If you have protected no claims you might as well claim assuming the damage comes to more than the excess.....thats what insurance is for!

If they are anything like Mondeo and Fiesta mirrors then take off the cover on the inside, and they are bolted on with 3 bolts (maybe torx heads on them).

Also, disconnet the wiring plug.

I imagine you could pick one up from ebay for about £10-£20.

Tbh you know its down to scummy kids/teenagers. Little plebs should stop doing this when they get thier own cars.

Mine got booted off a while back, maybe like me you could try resoldering all the wiring and slotting it back into place. I used glue gun and its right as rain right now. :)

heh
mine got snapped off last night
completely sheared the metal
but
i know i can get a replacement for at most £15 from ECP

I would just pick one up somewhere, its not worth the insurance, my dad bought a new one for his mondeo when someone snapped it off, he bought a brand new one from a ford dealer for £210. (some brackets and stuff were missing so it was more expensive) If your excess is £200 then your paying £10 less to possibly loose your no claims and god knows what hassle.

Personally I'd find someone who is breaking a focus or go to a scrap yard, I should imagine it would be pretty cheap, and ofcourse maybe more importantly your insurance remains unaffected

Its just a case of finding a heated one that will fit your car.

you'd still get a hike come renewal from declaring a claim, and have to fork out the excess too.

parts off a scrappy will likely be less than the excess, and your insurance wont go up for 3 years :)

Bloody 'ell I hate hearing about things like this :( Do your mirrors electrically fold in? I have got into the habit of folding mine in every time I get out of the car to try and prevent this.

Possibly - depends on your situation. My excess is only £50 and my whole renewal is only £250 with protected no claims. Therefore if the bill was around £200 (he has bumper damage aswell) I would claim. No way would it send my renewal up by £150.

But I agree if you have a high excess or high premium its probably not worth it. Also depends how easy it is to get from a scrappy. The mrs knocked off both mirrors from our old Rover 420 and it was impossible to find an intact unit from a scrapyard for some reason.
