Grumble grumble...cheap car

That's what I thought... doesnt exactly look subtle!

I have no idea why I bothered paying £15 to advertise on PH and £20 on ebay - put it on AT last night and already got someone coming to see it this evening :)

First time I've advertised privately in a long time - always had good sucess with ebay, but that was always much cheaper cars.

Live and learn :)

PH classifieds is a waste of time IME unless you have something very specialist. Ask pretty much anyone what they think of "pistonheads" and they will never even have heard of it.

Always AT, every time. Even though it does sadly attract scam artists.

Well no, but this one was. He just had a quick look over it, didnt even start it, actually kicked the tyres and asked me if there were any dents on it...

See that right there is what kills me with private sales.

That idiot obviously was just bored or intends to come back and nick it later.

I mean why else would you not even get as far as starting it?

He obviously decided once he saw it that he didnt want it. I doubt he set out to waste your time - this sort of attitude amongst sellers really winds me up.

If he came over, took it out on a 30 minute test drive then perhaps he's a time waster but why go and view a car without starting it for a laugh?

I've not started the engine on several cars I've viewed - because a few minutes of looking around it was all I needed to tell it wasn't for me and that there was little point starting it.

That would be true if IANDS Saab was a shed, but its not.

If you are in the market for a Saab 9-3 auto, what's not to like?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pee'd off - I was courteous and polite, answered his questions and told him to give me a ring if he wanted to come back for a better look.

As for the car - he said he's owned a few 9-5s before and liked them but wants something a bit smaller. The car's exactly what it says on the tin, it's almost completely immaculate so I doubt there was anything surprising about it

Well clearly he wasn't happy with something - at least he didnt waste several hours of your time, a fiver of your petrol, etc etc. He turned up and left as soon as he realised it wasn't what he wanted. Perhaps he was after a certain spec, forgot to ask if it had it so felt foolish for not asking? Perhaps he was after something with a few less swirl marks? Perhaps he had regrets about whether the 2.0T was the right engine?

Who knows.

What I bet, though, is he didnt thumb threw Autotrader and decide to waste your time for the lulz.

Possibly, or possibly what he told me was completely true - that he had just started looking and wasnt sure what he wanted yet. I'd just like it to be sorted so I can concentrate on more important things, but I know it can be a long process

Edit - he's just emailed me asking about the price....

Well he's just made an offer by email of £5k (lol) and wants to pay by credit card

Something smells fishy

How are you supposed to accept credit card payments

Well if the whole thing wasnt so suspicious and he wanted to pay for a bit of it on his credit card, I'd suggest doing something with Paypal. But the offer was less than the WBAC valuation and it all seems a bit strange, so I'm not going to touch it with a bargepole!
