GSC Game World = Ubisoft DRM?

True, but if they focus on the fresh noobs then it's their own fault when their loyal fanbase becomes non-existant. Somebody was complaining in the BF3 thread that people were acting like the Devs owed them something. Well, that works two ways: if Devs constantly churn out mediocre remakes of old stuff and ignore the effects DRM has on legitimate buyers then they've no right to expect people to repeatedly put up with it.

No no no, just no. I am a huge fan of the Stalker games. Yes they are buggy as hell and poorly optimised, but they have a charm. I queued up for 2 hours in Game to buy SoC when it was released, the same day as Playstation 3 came out. Loved the game, borrowed it to a few of my friends and guess what? They subsequently bought the other 2 games.

They have always been a cult series of games that have spread through word of mouth or borrowing or even piracy. Ironically GSC very well may be a software developer that has actually gained from piracy in some regard. I hope to god they are just using this method in Russia and Ukraine where piracy is rife and Internet connections are rock stable of course.

If however this DRM is a universal method then it's a no sale from me. I will not be handing over my hard earned to be treated like a criminal. Sadly GSC are fighting against the very community that made them a success in the first place which is sad.

Oh well I still have the great community made mods to play with, and if GSC reverse this stupid decision I shall pick it up on launch day like the other 3. To hell with always on DRM, I've not bought one single game that uses it and if my foolish pride means I miss out on great games like Stalker 2 and Diablo 3; so be it.

Well, that's me not buying STALKER 2 then. Shame, the first 3 were possibly my favourite games of their respective years.

Ugh. Do developers not actually realise than 'always on' DRM just steers customers away?

Stalker is one of my favourite game series on the PC, it represents what PC gaming is all about. But if they go ahead with this then then the series will end with CoP for me.

"Part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses."

This is so so stupid, what about all the people with on-peak cap's etc.

Only until people learn that this is what they do, and then people become reluctant to give them money. ;)

except of course the biggest gaming franchise in history has pulled with off for what the last 5-6 years?

Well as an avid fan of the stalker series (who interestingly discovered it though piracy) and owns the collectors editions of them all and has encouraged others to buy them...I won't be buying this.

Shame really, but i'm guessing as they're now going for this DRM + consoles it's going to be a dumbed down shooter and not what stalker used to be.

...but you'll be playing it? ;)

We were talking about average games getting average remakes. "The biggest gaming franchise in history" probably doesn't qualify as average. :)

This is actually pretty nice. They might end up removing all this silly DRM by the time the game hits £2 bargain bin and because of the DRM, there's zero interest in buying the game before that. Win-win for customers. Maybe.

it's pretty average :p

average sells better than anything else because it appeals to the widest audience.

Exceptional is only exceptional to the niche it's appealing to :p

It doesn't surprise me, PC getting used as a guinea pig again for next gen consoles!

No hard copy, no resale value and cut out retailers, that's what the publishers are really pushing for, more profit!

But shhhhh!

Don't tell anyone I told you!

We'll blame it on PC piracy, it works every time!;)

Better to just give the money you would have spent on the game to charity, more deserving than a company who can't pull the stick out of their ass.

I couldn't do that tbh. Not trying to preach to anyone but I believe that one should pay for a service or product rendered to the rightful owner, even if it is an evil corporation. By all means pirate Ubisoft games to get round the daft ass DRM but pay your way to it

I saw Settlers 7 in a shop the other day for 8 quid, I thought about buying it - then remembered it had Ubi DRM - so i didn't.

I'll never support a company that has always online required for single player games.
