Gsync = Overhyped

Well i received my first gsync monitor last week acer x34.. It took me 2 mins to get gsync enabled...

Like most peoples problems on this forum its 99% user error... They try and blame everything else before they even think it might be them thats the problem..

Dude there is no need to be a **** G-Sync is supposed to be as simple as plug and play and this instance it wasn't just because your experience was smooth with it does not mean everyone else's will. You can see by one of his first replies that he was asking for help because he didn't know what was causing this. We ALL get frustrated when we buy some new kit and it doesn't work as it should out of the box. You would have been irritated if you got one of the **** x34's that seemingly had no quality control on it or if your PC didn't want to let you use it as you expected.

I don't know about anyone elses, but the Asus RoG came with a 3 step picture guide that showed how to turn on gsync, nvcp defaults to vsync on and then telling you to turn off vsync in game... Setting a frame limiter is a little bit of a user tip, but it sounds more like in the OP's case there was something else not set right in the first place as he was getting tearing which definitely says gsync was off

If you are asking for help as an unknown, sticking an accusation in the thread title is going to attract some off comments :D

Ignorance is bliss. :rolleyes:

Seems like the issue is similar to what I was experiencing. There does seem to be a driver bug or similar which results in G-Sync simply not working without V-Sync being enabled.

CS:GO with G-Sync is a jittery mess, but without it's a unsmooth and rather horrific. Single card helps however it's still poor. BF4 is the only other game I play, and it's perfectly fine.

Vsync off gave me screen tearing, nothing to do with FPS.

By setting your Maximum fps below your refresh rate (say, for example 118fps with 120hz) you are not allowing the game exceed the refresh rate, therefore you can't get tearing, so it has EVERYTHING to do with fps. You didn't have it set correctly if you were still getting it.

Setting v-sync on or off shouldn't make any difference if you've limited the fps as it only applies if you're exceeding the refresh rate, in which case "on" would negate tearing but introduce input lag, "off" would introduce tearing but remove the input lag.

Works fine for me.

I've been getting stuttering with G-Sync, too. Monitor is the Dell S2716DG and GPU is a 980 Ti Hybrid. Witcher 3, Path of Exile, Grav...too many games for me to think it's just a game engine-related issue. I also got stuttering when I had a PG279Q (sent it back as it was faulty) so I don't think it's a monitor issue.

I've heard that Windows 10 + Precision X is a bad idea, so have uninstalled PX and will test again tomorrow. Are there any other framerate limiting tools out there besides RTSS?

I use afterburner to limit my fps, the last time I used precision it wouldn't let me use a random number to set the fps to whereas afterburner does, this is via RTSS, in win 10.

So it wasnt gsync that sucked.. It was u that sucked? Now go wash your mouth out...

Aww you poor little bunny. Did the bad man's yellow stars offend your delicate sensibilities? If you need to mess around with third party apps just to get it running smoothly there's a valid argument that it needs improvement.

Thanks for the tip. I may give Afterburner a try, then. Do you get any stutters etc at all when using it? Read a lot that says the later versions of these tools cause stutter, and that people are using older versions to mitigate it. At the moment I don't particularly need the OC, but at the same time it kinda sucks that I have a Hybrid running stock clocks for fear of causing stuttering!
