I'm looking at a monitor that has gysnc ultimate and am wondering if it's any good. My current monitor doesn't have any form of gysnc so I'm wondering what's everyone's opinion on gysnc and gysnc ultimate.

If you've never had gsync at all don't rule any out that aren't ultimate and are compatible, I've had a mixture and couldn't honestly tell the difference between one having the module and one not having it.

Yeah, you really need to just look at the spec sheet/monitor reviews to see how good the Freesync is and its features because many of them have very similar features to Ultimate without the added cost (and without the fan if the noise bothers you).

Moved from non, to freesync and then a gsync ultimate monitor. Every step felt like an upgrade.

Old monitor from 2007ish was a screen tearing mess but was an awesome upgrade at the time.

Freesync monitor with an AMD card was doing very well only issue I had was with my card some games might have dropped under the 48fps threshold and would stop being freesync and have tearing.
New gsync ultimate monitor has 1-144 gsync (supposedly althouh i read an article its 30-144 so no idea) (and new nvidia card) and now even happier. Not that happy though on how expensive it was.

Also one thing to note: G-Sync ultimate certification used to be stricter. The monitor had to have full-array local dimming (FALD) and brightness of 1000nits. Nowadays its not the case.

My monitor is the 38" Alienware with gsync ultimate and has VESA DisplayHDR™ 600 instead of 1000. Also is edge lit with only 32 zones (but essentially half that as you need 2 zones to light from bottom to top).
So more importantly do your research and see what it is you like and what you can compromise to as unfortunatelly none of the monitors is the best of the best and will always be missing features/ tradeoffs.
I wanted a 38" monitor ultrawide for gaming and work and not much of a choice as it was either this or the lg which was more expensive with less warranty. Cant fit a 48" oled else i would go for that and the 34" got released after i bought this one. I cannot hear the fan btw usually i can hear the tiniest of noise but not in this case.

Note sure if i would ever buy IPS again though this monitor doesnt have the greatest contrast and the blacks are grey. Its ok in the day but in the night or dark room it can be annoying especially if HDR kicks in and lights up a dark scene.

What gsync monitor where you looking to get?

I currently have the first lg superwide monitor that came out. It's 34" 3440x1440p 60hz no gysnc or freesync.
Great monitor but it's on its way out. So I'm looking at LG latest models of the same size.
There's 2 to pick from one has gysnc ultimate and the cheaper one has bog standard gysnc but it also supports freesync.
I only play single players games so will probably limit it to 90hz which seems to be the recommended speed going by what hardware unboxed say for these type of games.

I think gsync ultimate with later monitors would also have freesync support (mine does) but I would check with reviews etc for the monitors you are looking for.

If your budget can stretch I think at 34" atm the holy grail of monitors is the AW 34" QDOled that has gsync ultimate. Price is steep though but thats what I would be going for atm - if only there was a 38" version of that ....

See if you can find more info anywhere or ask perhaps an owner. Rtings is a proper reviewer site but you never know. I think I couldn't find if mine does freesync on Alienware website either.
What gpu do you have?

gsync ultimate = no tearing down to 20hz or less and no tearing even after overclocking/overdriving the monitor

side effects: fan noise
