Hi all and thank you for popping in,

I'm a little lost when it comes to adaptive refresh rate tech as of late. I can't find a definitive answer somewhere that straight up says that Freesync monitors WILL take advantage of my 2080 Super and that I won't be making the wrong decision. Ideally i'd like to stay away from the Gsync tax that is stamped on most gaming monitors if I can and come away with the same performance just...for less.

I'm looking to get a 27", 1440p, IPS monitor that's going to be primarily used for fast paced games like Apex Legends. I assumed I was locked into Gsync monitors so i've been looking at these:

Acer Predator XB271HUbmiprz

ASUS PG279Q ROG SWIFT

Dell S2716DG

Am I looking at monitors that are more expensive than they need to be? Can I just buy a Freesync alternative that's going to save me money and deliver the same performance?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I run the Eizo IPS 1440p 27inch. Adaptive sync works fine with either my 5700XT or my 2070Super FE.

My advice to you is to search for an Nvidia compatibility list for Freesync monitors. There is a dude on reddit running a spreadsheet.

So much to take in, i decided to go the route of TN for response times and to a company who as far as im aware offer good customer support if all isnt what it should be.
Dell S2719DGF

I know what im getting into, IPS vs the TN debate etc but i play a lot of fps games so for me it makes sense. Plus the LG monitor i was going to buy has serious stock issues :)

This has been widely reported to be a g-sync compatible monitor as well so will work as expected with my current gpu.

I have been using the monitor for a day and ive used some calibration settings from PCM2 review with ICC profile.

The colour shift isn't really that noticeable, especially while your viewing it straight on.
Black levels are also good and not washed out.

Using Nvidia compatible in Nvidia control panel and v-sync on also in Nvidia control panel, the pendulum test work flawlessly even at the screens oc to 155hz.

I have been playing Apex legends and tried various other games out, all seem good and responsive.

All in all im happy so farm, no banding at all and seems a quality screen.

Time will tell where eye strain is for me vs the ultra wide etc.
