Hey guys

I was hoping to replace my 980TI with a 3080 but I'm not even going to bother trying to get hold of a 3000 card this side of Christmas now. The AMD cards open on Wednesday as I understand it so I'm happy to look to them for alternatives because I'm not loyal one way or the other.

The only thing holding me up now is that I have two GSync monitors. Is GSync/FreeSync still important? I don't see people talk about it much but if I move to AMD is it really going to be a big deal not having it? They're 1440p 144Hz Dell S2716DG monitors.

Cheers

I would say yes, it's still important if you want to avoid screen tearing.
Have you checked to see if the monitors support free/adaptive sync?

It does help with reducing screen tearing but as long as you have a powerfull enough graphics cards to run games at the 144hz tearing shouldnt really be an issue. V-sync is normally enough. or often gsync monitors also do free sync.

Try turning it off on your monitor to see if you need it.

I don't value it nearly as much as I value high refresh rates.

Im in the same boat and will be switching to adaptive sync. Any monitor supporting gsync can do adaptive sync too. May switch back to nvidia in a year or two as I do like gsync, but honestly I dont really notice any difference between gsync on my 1080 ti and the freesync screen the Mrs has on her pc with an RX480 strix.

I also wouldn't get too invested in the idea that AMD cards will have loads of availability when sales open up. If the cards do perform well vs the 3000 series there could be huge demand as people switch. I forsee the Nvidia queues rapidly shrinking in that circumstance.

I am in the same boat on this one. I really like G-sync so I am just gonna wait it out for an Nvidia card, I am on 1080ti so no massive rush. I paid extra for G-sync so might aswell get the most out of my monitor. I think if you were thinking about getting a new monitor at the same time I would get one that can do both and go AMD.
