It has been confirmed as free
UPDATE] Today, we sat in on a presentation hosted by Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi as he demonstrated some of the new features that will be present in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The game is due for release on the PlayStation Network as a free download later this year.

Reading all of that it looks like they will update various things about this game via PSN including things such as the AI, physics, menu options i guess. So then it could seem that GT 5 prologue is like a huge beta test for the proper GT5 ah interesting!

Thats impressive, I didnt think it would be free.

GT 5 Prologue is immediately recognizable by its handling, particular the extremely bouncy feeling of the shocks. Weight transfer between the rear and front wheels in a car is something the GT series has always taken seriously, and you need only slam the brakes before turning into a tight corner and watch the front of the car lurch forward to see that it's still a big focus.

Is it just Suzuka for this then

awesome !

this been free is very good news indeed

i spent long enough playing gt hd so this will be great , espesh if its online

Personally for me i always found GT to offer beaty in cars, in a sense it was car art and very much an eye candy game over a game with substance.

I dont need simulation, or a high degree of simulation running at 300 fps etc.
I do however want AI to behave in a way that can match my ability and grow with my performance or at least offer some game mode that increases the difficulty as you progress in the game.

Forza 2 biggest flaw is the ability to tune a car to hell and then have a race situation that unless your impatient or make bad driving errors you should win the race easy. Having AI were only 2 of the 8 cars even get close to offering up any form of competition is also a major let down in Forza single player modes.

The most important thing with handling is that its fun to drive yet at the same time challenging. Its a game it should look pretty be fun to play and sound nice to boot, end of story.

Im still miffed at 1080 with 16 cars, i dont know of other 1080 games that are fronting such power so many cars with such high polycounts and 60 frames so im still a bit skeptic on this. I hope this isnt a last minute Sony "we dropped to 720p" style scenario which they have tended to do in the past.

Polyphony for once might meet a launch date

Mmmm...

The PS3 is compatible with the logitech G25 wheel right?
A new wheel is being made though, we might get a first glimpse at it at the Tokoyo Car show within the month. No doubt more juicy details will be spilled about the game then

Why do they never show off the GT games in triple screen mode, the previous game also supported this, its not just Forza and id be curious to learn if GT5 will support it too.
(Not that i can afford 3x HDTVs and 3x PS3) but showing such a setup always gives off a good impression.

old thread dug up, can see people saying this demo is free. Its not. Who charges for demo's? Sony does Yay!, way to go Sony

GT 5 Prologue, effectively the most expensive 'demo' in history

The price has been revealed for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue which is considered as a game sample and not strictly speaking a fully blown game. The Blu-ray version will be available for a converted price of $43.10 while the Network version will be available for $38.95 in Japan. Despite the game looking super slick, it will be limited in features, cars and tracks, is it really worth the price of a full game?

Hidden away in Sony's TGS catalog was a shocking revelation: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's Japanese release date and price. Scheduled for December 13th, the game sample (demo, as we used to call) will retail for a whopping ¥4,980 ($43.10) on Blu-ray and ¥4,500 ($38.95) when downloaded through the PlayStation Store. Although the game will feature stunning graphics and many features of the final game, this seems as much too high for a game that has a limited track and vehicle selection. We hope that this kind of sticker shock doesn't come across the Pacific into other territories.

First of all GT5 Prologue is not a demo, It is a full game, Its more like GT5 lite, a cut down version with less cars and tracks and possibly a few features will be added when GT5 is released.
When GT4 prologue came out a 6 months or so before GT4 it was priced about the £20 mark if i remember, this only consisted of a few cars and license tests. GT5 prologue consists of 50 cars and about 5 tracks (not including the different versions of each) 16 player online racing etc far more the GT4 prologue had and cant think of many console racing games that offer 16 player online racing. There is also going to be a free demo on the 20 October featuring the new Nissan GT-R and featuring the Daytona raceway amongst other features. Also things you earn in GT5 prologue will help to buy stuff in the full game.

so its coming out at essentially half the price of a full game, just as the gt concept's/prologue's did before it....

~40 cars, ~5 tracks and a online mode is more then a demo.

still on pre-order.

Yeap, GT:HD offers full force feedback support too.

Wasnt a new wheel announced at TGS by the guy doing the Dev talk-through. I was hoping it would have made an appearance at TGS but dont hink it did so maybe its not coming till next year or for the Full game release.

GT5 is also i title i think will see remote play in some form, surely its more than coincedence that GT PSP never appeared and that GT-HD both kinda got canned?

Not sure what grounds you have. See here for a gameplay demo that mentions 1090p/60fps as a feature - I dont think they'll change it now - not at this late stage.

Ah but in todays wonderfull world you take nothing for granted.
Look at GT4 on NTSC it supported 1080i but really it wasnt true 1080i resolution.

I believe some form of "Pixel Doubling" software scaling may of been used particulary as GT4 even in 1080i suffered badly from "jaggies" and even more than GT HD demo on PSN.

Is it possible that GT5 or indeed Prolouge may indeed use a similar "software scaling with pixel doubling" to achieve 1080 res?

Still the car models look amazing and the lighting seems much better than the dreadfull lighting in Forza 2. Though were going to be spoilt with good looking racers as PGR4 looks rather sumptious. 720p 1080p resolution who cares its how good it looks that matters most.

I was wondering if GT 5 Prologue will be a % of the final GT 5 release.

IE 20% (or whatever) of the full release is actually prologue - both released in the shops and available for d/l - however people who buy Prologue wont necessarily have to buy that 20% again, updating their version via online or with a purchased BR (with the different versions of BR required for this might make it impractical and/or confusing for Mr Bloggs - just a thought I had)

the gt5p demo rigs at the TGS were running 1080p at 60fps, suzuka and daytona were used with 16 car fields, journos were allowed to race but each stint was limited to 3 minutes.

i really couldnt guess what % gt5p is of the full gt5 release (still a year away) it could be anything.

the gt:tv thing is interesting, its hope to include dtm, btcc races as well as top gear eps etc.
