GTA IV improved?

The only option here is to go to quad and 5870, NV don't have anything worth getting at the 5870's price point, am sure a 5870 would be better than a GTX260 in this game, or at least equal.

Yeah, nothing wrong with a 5870. It will be fine. I'm getting excellent performance at max settings with my 4890 and q6600. 30+ fps, 99% of the time.

I am running this on a q6600@3 gig and a 5850 flashed to 5870 speeds and it runs fine for me i was rather surprised just how well it ran certainly looks the part now as well.

Where abouts do these files go?

Appears that's the ENB mod for GTA SA and makes everything go all HDR..

Root dir.

He always calls the DLL's enbseries for all the games he modifies, not just gtasa and gta iv...

it's not worth getting a card just for GTA4 / Crysis performance mind.
It is imo, any other game I play runs fine on a much slower card :p.
You've just named the only 2 games I'd like more performance in, anything else runs fine at 60 fps already... And GTA IV is one of the only good reasonably modern games imo... Most other games like ME, FC2, etc are just boring for me:p.

The AA thingy is here as the authors site is down - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5BFBHKTL

If its anything like it is for flight sim then i should imagine it will require a lot of .ini mods to get it to look right with your particular hardware mixture.

Are you sure that is the right mod though?

Then ENB series mod I am using for AA in GTA4 (screenshots on previous page) is another one - ENB series v0076e.

Obvious troll is obvious!
Probably won't make much difference, as its the CPU that makes the biggest.

I went from a 4850 to a 4870 with the same CPU and it never changed, i still got 33 average at pretty low settings, now im on the i7 with the same 4870, im now at a higher res (1680x1050 instead of 1280x1024), and much higher settings (everything maxed, textures, shadows, water etc...), im now averaging around 55.

On same game settings as on my previous CPU (and same res), the frame-rate doubled, went from 33 to 66 avg, so i whacked the settings up, runs fine, and looks fantastic.
Excellent info, I'll think I'll give this a try. I'm running an 8800gt which isn't that much slower than a 4850 (apparently), and I'm running a q6600 at 3.6GHz which just eats whatever CPU intensive stuff I throw at it!

I'm thinking 512mb of GFX mem may limit be a bit, but I'm running 1280x1024 so I'm going to try the game before going GFX card shopping. ;)

i love the way a £130 console can play something your £2k rigs cant even manage...

LOL - CHUMPS

You do realise you've won the award for the thickest poster of the day...

My rig is worth way less than 1k and it plays GTA IV better than an xbox 360 at higher settings.

GTA IV runs fairly well on my rig (Q6600 @ 3.0GHz, 8800GT 512mb) at 1920x1080, but it could do with more VRAM so I can up the sliders a bit more (they're currently at around 25-30)
