GTA IV, Lagging!

Also a huge impact on performance is the clip capture, goto menus by pressing escape, go all the way to the right and turn off the clip capture setting.

Restart game and you should see a nice increase. As in back to desktop and reload.

As mentioned turn of clip capture

Turn off the video / frame capture / wtf its called - with this option off, my rig eats GTA4, with it on, it behaves as the OP describes.

:D

anytime i ever tried car parks after 10minutes every car on the street was nearly the exact same one..

i think the game has a certain memory limit for behicles and the car packs use to much memory so you end up stuck with the same car , i think a lot of the time its a million taxis

Nah thats just the spawn system, no one knows why Rockstar uses it, but i suppose its for performance reasons.

I installed it on my PC the other day and had the same issue, accelerating in a car would cause it to lagg for a second or so. Even the menus where laggy.

LIVE came up asking to install a new patch, it made a huge difference! It runs brilliantly now.

What kind of PC is required to run this at max settings then? I have a [email protected] and a 2gig 6950, and was expecting I could run max detail etc.. Not the case?

This is a serious question not a *******-ish I have a i7@5gigs and 16gig of ram with 3x 6900s will I be able to run minesweeper.

Well I have the i5 [email protected] with the 2gb 6950, machine has 8gb ram. I have not played with very high, but I am using High everything, 16x and sliders on 100%/64%/100% and get a very tasty 50-60fps all the time. I do have vsyn off and clip capture off. Clip capture off is an instant FPS booster. Might try out very high settings later.

Maybe that will give you an idea.
