GTA IV - running like a dog!

I actually found performance increased quite a bit over vanilla when I used the new Icehancer, and with vastly improved visuals. FPS were roughly the same, but improved when driving. In the end I didn't continue though because the colours looked a bit off for some reason. I will go back to it one day no doubt.

Omaeka seems to have changed his tune from a couple of weeks ago when he was telling us what a disgrace the game was and didn't deserve our money.

Aye, that was before I realised Rockstar actually coded in some AMD hardware support with 1.0.7 or something, otherwise an AMD processor basically doesn't work on 1.0.6 or below.

Doesn't excuse it, but its a nice band aid.

Omaeka I've just looked at your screenshots in the high res screenshot thread and your game looks horrific compared to mine. No wonder it runs smooth.

Everything's maxed on the second shots, the first bunch of GTA's were lowered because I didn't want to risk it, and as for the second its most likely because they are all taken at night? Derp.

No, even the second ones look awful. It's your resolution and as like I said why your game runs fine compared to the majority of us who play at 1080p and above.

Yet most of you can't get GTA IV to work on 1080p or above, go figure.

Yeah the games not optimized at all, its quite bad infact, there you go, that's why you can't run it in 1080p, try a lower resolution.

Bought it in the Steam sale also. Runs like a dog also. With the system I've got (in sig) this should not be. It cannot run maxed out as it stutters like crazy. I knew it had the reputation as the worst console port ever but still...it's disappointing :(

Steam version runs fine for me maxed out. :confused:

Still manages solid 40+ fps with few subtle mods, such as much higher pedestrian density and more traffic. :)

No thanks, I just turn a few settings down and play on 1080p which still looks miles ahead of your maxed out 1440x900 version.

No I'm just being honest.

Lets see some screenshots of these amazing graphics then, lower resolutions will look bad on higher resolution monitors simply because its so small. 1280x720 images look bad on my monitor, whereas my 1440x900 images look amazing on my 1280x720 laptop so its understandable that 1440x900 will look bad on a 1920x1080 monitor.

To suggest the graphics that I can see while in game are 'horrible' and miles behind what you see on your monitor is pretty funky.

Hmm let me see

1920x1200 =2304000 pixels for your GPU/CPU to render/manipulate
1440x900 =129600 pixels for your GPU/CPU to render/manipulate

50% difference no wonder you THINK you can run the game maxxed out :rolleyes:

By your logic, 1920x1200 is far from running the game maxed out. Thanks for the effort.

I run it just fine at 1920x1080 (machine in sig), I don't use the ENB mod though. In fact I am playing through it again atm to get the achievements. I have a huge GFWL list of achievements to get through across many games.

In fact my rig is pretty much a bog standard setup that most people actually have I have found, ie lot of people do run the i5 6950 combo. Apart from the people with mega rigs :)

Exactly what I'm upgrading too when I have the money, but a 7850 instead of the 6950! Good to know it can run this maxed at that resolution. :D
