I'm interested in buying gta IV so the postman brings it to my home at day of release, however I have a few questions:

I absolutely loved the previous gta's, is this more of the same, I haven't really played it a lot perhaps 2 hours @ my mates and I can't make my mind up... Imo SA is the best so far and I'm worried I'll miss the countryside and casual driving too much in IV...

I've noticed they still haven't fixed the pop-up effect for cars :(.
Although the cars themselves look damn awesome, explosions are nice too...
The city looked just average to me... Even boring tbh...

Are the missions sameish as in the previous games ?

is € 42,99 a good price, is it likely to cost less somewhere on release or is this a good price for a pre-order ?

Finally, how is the MP, is it better than samp or worse ?

No its not more of the same, missions are similar but less 'hollywood' The whole game is more smaller scale, greater detail sort of thing. Haven't played samp but the multiplayer is pretty fun.

I really think its GTA3 with the improved graphics and an added Physics engine a step backward in my opinion. My biggest disappointment with it was there was no Business Side game.

Although the story and the characters are a big positive as usual from a GTA game.

So I'm not likely to enjoy a drive through liberty with no reason at all in a random street car ?

In sa, most of the hours went to free driving around and enjoying roaming the map, as opposed to the missions which were superb too of course but they aren't everything...

I have tried driving around freely in IV, but what bothered me most is that cars felt slow, and the game itself felt very slow, the framerate slowed down too much to enjoy stuff like crashes/explosions...

The cars themselves looked awesome and also love the car physics, but is it me or have the slowed em down ? I tried going full throttle for 20 secs and it didn't feel anywhere near say 150 mph, more like 60 mph...

What also bothered me bout IV is it doesn't look like a major city at all:
The motorways are 2x2 lanes, not 2x3/4/5 lanes.
There are no big 4 lane 1 way avenues in Manhattan, instead there are lame 2 direction roads on most of the bits, which isn't really realistic imo...
The traffic popped up and disappeared, no big traffic jams I could see :(. What I hated most in SA was the vehicle pop up distance and the max amount of cars, eg. you could never get more than like 15 or 20 cars on the screen :(.

I was concerned about how much cars rolled in it.

It's actually quite nice imo that, it's not really overdone as you got to admit, most yank cars have stone age suspension... It's only a little bit more than sa...

I think they went for a more realistic approach which is why the cars are probably slower.

Pop up = not realistic.
Narrow empty streets in Manhattan is not realistic :(.

Theres a fair amount of traffic, especially on the last island.

Hmmm okay, how many missions are there, more than in SA or not?

Do you think it's worth pre-ordering for 44 euros delivered now ( thinking I loved the previous gta games and consider SA one of the top 5 best games ever, and I don't own a console) ?

GTA 3, no customisable cars, no buying buisnesses / houses.

Loved gta 3 too...
Knew about no modding cars and that's a bummer. Liked buying businesses though but don't care bout houses really...

Less probably, there's far less filler. Stuff like the ambulance missions have gone and the vigilante missions are shorter but much more enjoyable. I think the main story is about the same length as SA probably. Modding cars was crap in SA anyway, especially compared to Saints Row.

I dont see why not, regardless of whether its worth the 10/10's it was getting on release it is still a damn fine game and a must play for anyone, let alone a GTA fan.

The only issue is whether the more realistic/less wacky is really going to bother you, if so then Saints Row 2 looks set to fill that gap :)

I've never liked the GTA games. Found that the storylines were generally cack (I'm a bit of a storyline man!), the missions got repetitive and frankly driving around killing pedestrians was only fun for half an hour or so.

However, my brother bought GTA4 recently and subsequently left to travel for his gap year so I've taken over the reins and it is a simply stunning game. The storyline is riveting, the characters fully fledged. The game seems fleshier-you really feel part of the city in a way that I never did in the previous games. It's genuinely funny and, above all, it actually grips me. Definately worth getting.

EDIT: I know that this is a smaller game with less to do than in prior games, particularly SA which was huge. However, I think that it helps focus on the excellent story-and to be honest there is still a lot you can do!

i'll be getting this on release for sure. i can't wait. i almost caved in and bought a 360 just for this game but common sense prevailed. :D

Less filler is a bit of a shame, always funny to do the truck missions in SA or steal the cars... MAin story the same length? good :). Modding may have been a bit basic in SA, I still loved such simple modds as adding a spoiler to my bmw or to my cad, paint it black, 10x nitro, hydraulics and be a gangster :D...

I usually like realism, but mad fast racing ain't impossible in reality is it :D ?

Okay thanks guys, I think I'll pre-order tomorrow :).

Will be grabbing saints row 2 too simply because I never played saints row and it looks funny from the trailer.

Me too lol, almost owned a 360 several times now because of evil rockstar for not announcing the PC version for so long :(.

But playing it on the 360 made me a bit down, laggy, pop up, slowish, 360 pad ( GTA imo is and will always be a mouse + kb game).

But then sitting in front of a 720p tv + rubbish sound is not the same as a 24'' monitor + good 5.1, you're much more ''into games'' on pc and less casual than on the 360, where you have trouble reading something off the tv due to sitting so far from it...

Pop up = not realistic.

'Tis a shame about the popup. I thought with this generation of consoles they might have improved a bit on that part. I dunno if its still down to console memory limitations or just lazy programming. One of the things I liked about Mafia was that it didnt really suffer from any of that, maybe because it was designed for PC first and foremost.

Completed then sold it on the PS3.

Now have it preordered on PC as a diehard fan and hope the PC version corrects the weak console hardware issues.

Gameplay wise it does not have anywhere near enough to do as VC/SA and the gameworld is quite a bit smaller. If you loved VC/SA then you will be a little disappointed in GTA4 as it feels like a single island from VC/SA. Mission variety is also shocking and the cutscenes are extremely tiresome to watch (unable to skip either) they play out like a very poor goodfellas/sopranos wannabe. Cannot believe how much time/money Take2 wasted on them as they dominate the game and only about 2 are memorable the rest are just single room characters talking the same old unmemorable dialogue which will bore you to sleep. I would say they are even worse than the Assassins Creed ones.

Gfx on the PC should be a lot better and they need to be as the console versions suffered from really bad FPS, vsync screen tearing issues, blurry eye hurting backgrounds & very low quality textures in places. Pop up was also so bad you could miss something totally due to the way it suddenly appeared.

Still worth getting on PC as its the only platform which can handle the ambition of the gfx design but the actual gameplay is lacking and this game does not deserve super high reviews as it falls a long way below the enjoyment the earlier games had.
