GTA IV, worth preordering?

Wow people trying to enforce age restrictions, have you lot ran out of other stuff to **** up threads with?

Seriously, the only people who are influenced by playing 'adult games' are gonna turn into nutjobs one way or the other.

+1

i won't be pre ordering GTA IV now :) will wait till release and decide then....

I've pre-ordered it! I'm really looking forward to it as well, i've heard good things about it and being a big fan of the others i've been itching to play it.

Just seen some news on the required specs for it

"The recommended specs for GTA IV are; Windows XP SP2, Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or above), 2GB of RAM, 18GB of hard drive space, a 512MB Direct 3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card, and a DVD dual-layer drive. All things considered, the recommended settings could have been a whole lot loftier."

If you've not played it before then you're in for a treat, the console versions were pretty poor performance and control-wise I think that's what put a lot of people off finishing it.

PC version should be a far less frustrating experience.

It'll be too easy, most missions are do-able on the first or second attempt (even the ones where your stealing a lot of coke and driving away from 4 star police) which is a bit dissapointing. Other than that its pretty good (you just have to live without an in game economy, making most the sub missions pointless, and that the helicopter just doesnt want to fly making the 2 of the missions just average)

if thats the case my computer will run it a piece of **** awesome

It's bound to be a far better experience on the PC. The problem I had with the 360 version on a bog-standard 32" telly was the lighting. Either it was too dark to see clearly or I was dazzled by headlights. Most frustrating. I can't get near the 360 or PS3 these days anyway - damn kids.

Bought the Rockstar collection from Steam the other day - awesome stuff, when it deigns to run :/

Exactly. PS3 £50, 360 £45, PC £25...

I know which ones Id want everyone to buy first if I was Rockstar...

the might make more off the £25 from PC than the PS3 at £50. PC game, a cut doesn't go to sony or Microsoft, the other versions a hefty hefty percentage goes to the console manufacturer. However the cash they get from MS and Sony is still significant, like the money from MS for the exclusive content update and the market of gamers being a fairly known quantity gives them targets for budget to work from and how much time/effort cash they want to put into a game.

I'd be tempted to buy it for PC, if i knew the ridiculously over used and crap looking soft shadows were a option that can be turned off or the quality of them turned up significantly. Area's under the L-train tracks were a checkerboard of fuzzy awful looking shadows which just hurt your eyes. Draw distance and other things were also woeful on the 360 and i pray to god, and almighty allah, and well, someone at Rockstar that they sorted out the cars. Just a touch frustrating that to get a decent car you would mostly steal one out of the car dealership and once you're in one they spawn absolutely everywhere, not till you get in one though.

Heres my 2cent on GTA:VI

I bought a PS3 primarily to try it out, was dissapointed in framerates and ultimately sold the PS3. I was impressed with 2 things in GTA:IV, the physics blended with animation and the multiplayer. Allowing a separate wanted system for each player and allowing traffic etc was a good achievement, I'd like to see this improved on the superior platform (PC). I think it''ll be fun.

Also I'd like to see this come out on Steam, it would be nice to have this game follow me wherever I'm at without CD's.

That's a fair point - I have tons of steam games and love the simplicity of it.

If it appears on steam I'll cancel my jersey pre-order.

I had a PS3 and GTA4 until a few days ago. I loved the storyline, but the controls sucked massively. I spent 3 years hammering away at GTA:SA and MTA:SA on the PC and I had my control system nailed to perfection. The PS3 controls felt vague and ponderous in comparison.

Also, the online gaming aspect sucked massive balls. Auto-aim all over the place, it just wasn't any fun.

I will definitely be pre-ordering it for the PC though, infact I think I'll do it now.
