I've noticed the Canadian import place has been showing Oct 16th 2007 as the release date for GTA IV for some time now

Rather than assume it was true though, I'd always assumed they'd simply not put the date back when it got delayed last time

on http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/ under games of the month it does have gta 4 (saying its on the horizon), either sony webby guys are morons, or sony pulled a sure way of boasting consoles sales during crimbo.

Obviously i prefer the latter

Interestingly, this was posted on the PlayStation GTA forum around two weeks ago:

A source at Rockstar Games has said that GTA IV is completed and has been on time for the October release date.

However they will not be releasing the game till the new 2008 release date

When asked why a spokesman for Take-Two Interactive claimed that the delay was because they wanted to maximise thier profits and did not want to release it in october and fight copetition with the release of Halo 3

If true could the rather tame Halo release have resulted in them bringing the date back forward? Surely before christmas is better than April?!?

We can only hope!

Tame Halo release? You call 170 million dollars in 24 hours a tame release?

How could it possibly be any bigger than it was? My friendslist has 6-7 people constantly playing Halo 3 on it, and I've never seen that with any 360 or PS3 game.

Most people completed in a day and probably have not played it since, I got to stage 3 before losing interest.

You have to remember not everyone cares about multiplayer.
