Put off buying GTA V as I didnt think it would run well on my 4K setup. Well after biting the bullet and giving it a go I cant believe I waited. Its another thumbs up for G-Sync. Its very smooth, very responsive and a joy to play. Hope this helps anyone else who maybe on the fence about 4K gaming, just remember to go G-Sync or Freesync to iron out any kinks.

My system:

4.5GHz Haswell E X99
16Gb DDR4
Single Nvidia GTX 980 1404MHz core 7.8Ghz mem
Acer 4k G-Sync 28" monitor

Video, sorry for the quality, any stuttering or jerkiness is purely on the video only:

This has put my mind at ease as I am looking to build a new rig from scratch soon with this monitor as well but everyone seems to be saying a single 980 won't cut it at 4k. The way I see it is a monitor is an investment that you don't replace often so I may as well go 4k now to future proof a bit and gpus can be replaced or sli when needed at a later date

The monitor is fantastic, I play a lot of Warcraft and its just buttery smooth at Ultra 4K. GTA V has completely taken me by surprise at how great the engine is, I was expecting a jerky mess. I can imagine the rumoured 980ti with GSync is going to be a great investment for 4K.

Make sure you overclock the 980 memory in particular, it gives you a big boost at 4k.

Very nice setup.

Thanks :)

Here is my original thread if you want to see more info/games with this monitor:

I'm not convinced by 4k yet, still a few years before we get anything decent GPU wise. Still I bet that must be a joy to play, I'm yet to even make the transition to 1440p!

How much FPS are you getting?

Awesome - if (when) I go 4K it'll be with g-sync, hopefully the ASUS 4k IPS G-sync monitor is closer to £500 than £1000 when it's released!

Wow... the only thing that's not being run is anti-aliasing, I guess one can argue its not so necessary at very high resolutions. I'm very surprised that even the advanced settings are turned up and those are supposed to be performance hogs. Just the 59hz framerate confuses me. How much FPS do you get with this set up? I'd assume 30fps at 4k?

However this also reminds me that this game runs differently for different folk, perhaps because they run at different settings. One person on SLI 980s wouldn't turn on those advanced settings due to framerate decrease, but I think they were 1440p@60 with anti-aliasing on.

I would love an IPS version of this monitor :D

I am sure you would be surprised if you saw it in action :)

Is there an fps counter in GTA?

Thanks :)

Nice one very informative, think I have settled on 4k now, I don't really play fps so I would appreciate the higher resolution over a 144hz 1440p display. atm I can't afford to spend a grand on gpu alone so I will prob go with one 980 (or sli 970) and save up for pascal next year, until then I'll have to be clever with settings and play around with them a bit to find what's right for me. Building from scratch can be one hell of a wallet rape. I've told the misses it will only cost £500 all in but that will just be the monitor alone lol oops

Haha we have all been there, bet those last shoes she bought were only £50 ;)

Don't under estimate the 980 and GSync, you will be pleasantly surprised.

That reminds me she has a box of shoes that she only wore once, might flog them to fund my new toys :D
The next thing I need to decide on is z97, wait for skylake or go that bit extra for x99  decisions decisions

X99 is a fantastic platform, this is the most stable PC I have ever owned right back to the 486 days.

ye its true that is a very sweat set-up.
i have heard the optimum resolution and fps is 2560 but ye it looks awesome
i am saving my self for a 5k screen ;):D

I had the 5k iMac and the screen was just incredible. I played Warcraft at 5k and it just popped out the screen, shame the iMac didn't have the power to push it beyond 15fps.

Don't buy the Acer 4k even though it has Gsync. Their reputation for quality monitors is not good.
