GTA V

Ah that doesn't sound very good something that's supposed to be the core of the game.

Once you got used to it and found the right cars that do handle well it was fine, though I did find that larger vehicles didn't feel right and trucks with trailers attached were no fun as they felt too fast and light.

I should say that I bought GTA V immediately on release as I've never had any issues with the driving in previous games. So I'm not just bashing it.

I loved all GTA games since the 2D original. V's driving is the first time in the series I thought they went backwards. But it's truly unsatisfying for me.

I should say tho that many people like the more arcade-y feel to the driving, and don't like it when they spin or lose control. For them that isn't "fun" at all. I don't understand this, but I have to accept that it's their choice.

The modders will sort it out, theyve finally sorted out 4, looks and feels like a dream atm. The only thing i would like is shadows without it halving the FPS.

It feels like it! ( driving to easy/boring). I played gta 5 on ps3 for a coupleo f hours and I really really missed the gta4 driving. Gta 4 was rubbish for bikes but driving cars was nice there.

Just pre-ordered my copy, GTA and Civ games are the only 2 games I trust to pre-order.
I want the map/poster so stuck with the retail version, but I want it on steam :(.

Is it steamworks, does anyone know ?

Why do people keep saying this ? It simply needs both a decent cpu and a decent GPU, it runs FAR nicer than on consoles, imho it's barely playable on ps3/x360 due to the frame drops.

I have a dated spec ( gtx570, first gen i7), and I play GTA 4 just fine at 2560x1440 ( I play it supersampled to get better AA, FXAA doesn't cut it imo). Sure it's not 60 fps, but much higher FPS than on the old crappy consoles while looking much better.

Framerate is off the roof if you play it at ''console'' settings ( 1280x720, traffic at 16 or 17 was it, all the other things on medium, draw and detail distance much lower, etc...).

I'm sorry but that's tosh. I have a 780 with an i5 at 4Ghz and that struggles with everything max. It was so badly optimised it was a joke.

I genuinely hope Rockstar don't fudge this up in the same way. Until then, I'll hold off on my pre order.

GTA IV runs fine now. When it was released, it was such a bad 360 port, that if your PC had a processor with less than 3 cores (thanks to the 360's tri-core), it would run like poop.

Thankfully they patched it fairly soon after anyway.

But the engine is pretty unstable. Even with adequate RAM/vRAM (and a traffic loader), the texture pop-in/taxi bug is something I just can't get rid of. Not to mention the random crashes to desktop while playing (with mods). Which is a shame, as the LCPD First Response mod is one of the best PC mods I've played to date.

Just had a look on YouTube at some gameplay of that mod - it looks pretty good. I'm liking the UK skinned versions too as well as the Fire Brigade and Ambulance versions. I might need to reinstall GTA IV again and have a whirl. :)

I think a lot of people complaining about how it runs are trying to play it with Icenhancer installed with all max settings. When ya install Icenhancer ya really have get them sliders down to about 30 and turn off shadows to get it running 60fps, on my system anyway. With one card i have to have the settings on medium, but with crossfire i can use very high settings again.

Also some people dont use the launch commands which making things run a lot smoother.

So what are we looking at having to pay for this? £34.99 seems to be the going rate.
It's listed at £39.99 on GMG, but you can't buy it yet. As they normally do 20% off vouchers, what you said sounds about right. Can definitely see it being £39.99 on Steam though.

Guys, don't want to clutter up the thread with questions about GTA IV/LCPDFR but do any of you play LCPDFR? I'm just wondering what I need to do to get it all working? Had a look on the LCPDFR website/forums but I can't see a guide on what I need to get it working? Do I just install vanilla GTA IV and then install the LCPDFR mod package? Or do I need to do anything else?

Ta.
