Yup I have decided to definitely get a new CPU, mobo + CPU cooler.

Been reading about i5 VS i7 DC CPUs lately and the i7 doesn't seem to be worth the extra money unless I plan on having more than 2 GPU's in the future.

I would like it but if there is very little difference then I rather save the money and put it towards something else like more RAM.

Saying that, supposedly skylake is going to be a rather big leap so not sure if I should hold on for a bit longer....

Think I might just wait and see how it performs first and if it runs like **** then just go ahead with new stuff.

I watched a review that said FC4 was good. Bought it, then read 4 reviews that said it was bad.

But seriously for you I think the i5 would be fine, but that age old addage "if you can afford too, get the best you can".

Get it before the game comes out, because when it doesn't run like crap for us, it will for you with your poundland cpu.

OI! You leave my baby alone! Or else it will be 1vs1 in bf 4 tonight!!!! :D Honestly though, it is still a fantastic wee chip, only games where I struggle with max/high settings using the DX API is crysis 3, BF 4 & hardline.

And yes whilst that statement is true in some ways, I am more of a bang per buck kind of guy :p Whilst the i7 is without a doubt better (especially in application based stuff), I feel that it isn't worth the extra £80+ for purely gaming

Stop posting links to things I won't read. I have an i7. For gaming it is good but probably no better than the i5.

Where it really comes good is PS, AE and Cinema4D. If you don't use those get the i5. But get it now, go on now, order it now!

But yup, I very rarely use photostop these days, main usage of my pc is for gaming.

Yeah I might look into overclocking my CPU a bit more, going to need a new cooler though! Reckon the H80i will be good enough?

With my gelid tranquillo rev 2 and i5 at 3.8GHz (with turbo enabled), temps don't go above 75 when gaming although it has been years since I applied the thermal paste!
 
Get a H105, can not speak highly enough about it. All my friends that needed a better cooler after seeing mine, went out and bought one. It's stunning, If I can get 4.8GHz out my chip and have temps not go above 80c, it's doing something right :)

Edit: Was watching "Australia Bans Grand Theft Auto 5 For “Violence Against Women”" on Youtube.

Seems some stores in kangaroo land have banned the game from their store for the games depiction of women.

I have a 2600k and what a mistake getting an i7 was.

Games barely use 2/4 cores let alone 8. The other 4 are not even physical cores anyway.

Anyone that says an i7 is better than an i5 for gaming is a moron. Spend the extra on a better GPU.
